Help Needed, Firmware
« on: November 25, 2015, 02:24:17 PM »

Hi,

1st off let me start by saying that i have a d-link 320....i'm a uk user.

I've has my 320 a while:

info
model: 320
hardware: B2
firmware: 1.02

I'm after updating my firmware the uk site firmware is dis-continued after 1.02  :-\ . I was hoping i could install the 2.05 firmware from the US site but no luck (i've yet to try it via a wired connection)

I was looking at installing the latest Alt-F firmware if i can't use the latest from the US site......I'm also trying to find out the max size of the HHD's i can put in each bay....but the UK and  US support email are not helping not heard a reply from either in 4 days.

I think the latest Alt-F allows up to 5tb hhd per bay?? i've got a 4tb hhd but think i need to update the firmware in order for the nas to pick it up

Can anyone help me out? please.

Not sure where you are getting version 2.05 for US

This is what is generally communicated

"You must use the relevant site (depending on your country) to obtain firmware updates."

and

"Each country will/may have different versions."  < <  this I've never understood but hey ho we're talking about D Link and it's products

Anyway according to UK (otherwise known as EU) mydlink provides this  https://eu.mydlink.com/download#  click storage then scroll to 320L

If my memory is correct this firmware update blocks/stops fun plug so you might want to use v1.04b obtainable from vtverdohleb's wonderful site

@pholphil61 thanks for the help so far  ;D

Oh right i've got the 320 not the 320l

i got the 2.05 firmware from the US site. http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DNS-320

can i install the 320l firmware on the 320 instead? .... i still can't find the max hhd storeage in 1 bay at a time.

Sorry I misread your OP

I can't really answer your question but assume the 320 isn't supported by DLink anymore and also knowing vtverdohleb's expertise / knowledge the most up to date firmware should be DLINK_DNS320.2.05b08(2.13.0507.2014)    23-Dec-2014

You can not install DNS-320L FW on a DNS-320.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT INSTALLING 320L FIRMWARE ON A 320 UNLESS YOU WANT A DOOR STOP.

That being said we have installed firmware from the US and TW sites on our 320 boxes mainly because we didn't want the French version the units came with.  From what I can see the main reason for using regional sites is to get the correct language version which prevents problems with local language file names - nasty things can, and do, happen to files with accented characters if the code page in the firmware is changed with an upgrade (UK and US don't have problems with code pages 850 and 437).

oh boy now luck getting the FM to install wirelessly or via usb stick keeps saying "upload firmware fail. please try again."

on windows 7 it says the file type is .2014

guessing it should not be that? All i did was grab with firmware from vtverdohleb site then point the nas to in using my internet brower.

Be LAN wired to the DNS, never use wireless.

Disable any PC security software and browser add-ons. Try compatibility mode in IE or try FF.

Does your PC have a LAN cable connection? If so, just connect this to the DNS or the main host router and be sure the DNS is connected to the main host router as well.

Start at step 3 -
Update procedure:
1)  Backup the configuration to a file and store it on something like a usb stick, assuming you are satisfied with the configuration as it is. (updating the firmware returns the unit to factory state).
2)  Make sure you have a validated backup of your data. (we haven't encountered any problems but it is better to be safe than sorry).
3)  Check the downloaded zip file and then unzip it to a known location on your PC.
4)  Open the web UI of your nas and go to the 'firmware' page (usually under 'tools')
5)  Use the 'browse' button to locate the firmware on your PC and select the unzipped file.
6)  Click on 'open'  then click on 'apply'.  (this will copy the firmware to the nas and do the upgrade)
7)  MAKE SURE THE UNIT STAYS ON UNTIL THE UI RETURNS AFTER YOU CLICK 'continue'.
8)  Use the UI to confirm the firmware has been updated.
