Try connecting the PC and DNS to the main host router.

If you think this maybe beyond your scope of knowledge, I would recommend talking to someone whom can come over and help you with this before attempting to update FW. The process needs to be done correctly so there isn't any problems and the possibility of bricking the DNS.

I've not got anyone who can do it for me :(.....I'm a newbie when i comes to computers and networks.

like is said i'm getting on the locla area connection is "Unidentified network" on my laptop. So i'm guessing i've bought this d-link 320 thats not going allow me to use a 4tb using 1.02 fw :(.......i thought i could just update the fw wirelessly via my router....would it make any difference if i bought a cross over cable? (saw them mentioned in pc to pc LAN connection guides)

Hi, i got help from a memeber on here. All worked out fine in the end i connected my pc to my router using an ethrnet cable and my NAS to my router using and ethernet cable and turned my wireless off and then that pc picked up the NAS via the ip address thought my brower.

As for the max storage per HHD Bay for the 1.07 firmware UK version of the 320 is 4tb......so i've not needed to upgrade the firmware to the US version.

Glad you got it working.
Avoid installing US FW on your DNS, only use FW located in your region, when needed.
Enjoy.  ;)
