DIR-882 ignoring parental control schedule
« on: November 07, 2020, 06:27:09 PM »

Hi - I have a DIR-882 (HW:A1 FW:1.30) and I have set up parental controls for several devices

I'm having a problem where the parental blocking seems to ignore the schedule sometimes and blocks traffic for devices - it allows phones (and Chromebooka) to connect to the WIFI but then says no internet connectivity
e.g. the schedule is set to block traffic after 10pm and before 6am, but then is blocking traffic at times like 1 or 7pm

This occurs for multiple types of devices - including iOS and android phones and Chromebooks
the time server is set and the time is correct
I did reset the router when I uploaded the latest firmware

suggestions on how to track down the issue?

also, I have a question:
when the parental controls are set on (but the time should not apply them) there is text that says "Parental Controls: enabled"
I assume that just means that the enabled flag is turned on in the set screen, not that the schedule is actively blocking currently?

Also, there is an icon beside each entry - for enabled devices there is either a blue WIFI symbol or blue PC icon
whereas for the parental controlled devices it is a "blocked" (e.g. circle and slash surrounding) grey pc or WIFI icon

Should the icon be showing as disabled when the device has parental control defined? or when the system is actively blocking the device?
I assume the icon shows whether the device is being blocked currently, whereas the enabled text shows if the setting is defined - if that's correct then the question is why are the devices being blocked when they should not be?

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

Have you set up IP address reservations for the devices you are set with scheduling?

Scheduling and when the event is supposed to take place doesn't give any indication of it taking place, just that the event should be happening and blocking should be occurring only at the set configured time frames.

I'm in New Zealand  - I know there is a note at the top that says only US but as far as im aware there is no other place to get info as no local forums for anywhere else

Yes the devices all have static IP addresses assigned.
I'm just a bit baffled as to what turns some devices to have 'blocked' icons - it seems a bit random, and just trying to figure out if thats related to the schedule not being followed sometimes

That's ok, you can post here in the forums. I would make contact with your regional D-Link support office though to inquire about this more.
I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this.

We find that online chat or phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

thanks

As I using the same firmware do you think that the functionality would actually be different here in NZ?
or is it just a matter of using the right support services?

Possible differences between regions. Hopefully your regional D-Link support office will have more information regarding this...
