How much longer before D-Link is gone?
« on: January 13, 2020, 08:41:43 PM »

D-Link has dropped support for Chrome and even Firefox for most, if not all of their webcam portals. This is unacceptable. They always used a primitive interface based on Internet Explorer 9. Even if you try to use it now, you can't run the latest version with Java so it's compatible with IE.

From what I gather, users will need to keep IE11 or FF ESR v52 loaded on a PC that will be backwards compatible for users with the model cameras listed in this thread. Going forward, from what I'm told, D-Link will not be making these model cameras compatible with newer versions of browsers or OS. The NPAPI based add-ons are what all newer browsers no longer support. These and the cameras FW would need to be updated on many levels.

Users may need to look into newer model cameras that are more supportive of newer browsers and OS systems if there older cameras are not working or accessible thru browsers and the portal.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the feedback.

The GUI was always terrible even three years ago. The response and refresh rate was horrible but at the time acceptable despite 100 Mbps internet wired connection.

Now. I am running into another issue. Seems the image and video forwarding feature has been crippled. I can no longer send alert video and images by email. I tried with many different email accounts and providers like yahoo, gmail, and other private ones too. I receive a response saying email/pw combo incorrect. The service is partially working. I know this because if I enter wrong server settings it bounces back saying wrong smtp or rejected.

I haven't found another option. And we bought two of them three years ago at Costco. They weren't cheap and now they're effectively useless.

You need to check with your email providers. Some of there security features may block inline videos or pictures.

I presume the cameras were not supposed to last forever. With new tech and new security concerns out there, cameras only last for a period of time then become out dated. There are many levels in development in Camera and the fW and goes on them. Developers only develop for a certain period of time, then move on. Nature of the beast. I've been doing this for a long time now. I see a lot of this.
