Currently I have a DFI LanParty UT X58-T3eH8 X58 motherboard; this motherboard has 2 onboard LAN controllers (both Marvell Yukon). Now I am using the software from the website from Marvell to "team" (bridge) both network controllers.

However; do I need to make any changes to my DIR-655? If yes, what changes?
Also there are 3 options for the created team; Basic / Static / Dynamic.

I tried copying the text, but it didn't allow me.

Also if I use teaming should I use Jumbo Frames or not?

Teaming means to "bundle" your two NICs to one 2 gigabit line (trunk).
The DIR-655 can't handle this line as it has an unmanaged switch.
You can't change any settings there.

It makes no sense to build a trunk as you won't need such a bandwidth between your computer and the DIR. (2 Gigabit are round up to 240 MB/s). Router and computer can't handle such speeds.

Guess your wrong there mate. I have 4 harddisks in RAID 0.



I already transfered files in the past (through the DIR-655) to a friend of mine (who also has RAID 0) at 150 MB/s. So it does work, but needs some more finetuning...

Looks impressive 

In the DIR you can't change settings.
You can use Jumbo frames to increase dataflow between two enabled devices.
The DIR will recognize them automatically.

But Jumboframes can lead to trouble in a mixed network. All clients have to support it.

Ah okay, so I do have to use Jumbo Frames, when working at these speeds?
Yeah and I do experience some problems from time to time with (probably, not sure though) the Jumbo frames.

Biggest problem; sometimes (in both IE / Firefox) I get error messages like page not found and stuff. Could this relate to the Jumbo Frames?

I don't think jumbo frame would interfere with web browsing, as this router is smart enough to fragment these frames into suitable ones for the outside network.

For your information mine works fine. My lan interfaces on my computers are all Realtek 8111C chip. It was a pain to set up though. As although Realtek claim these chip 9K jumbo frame capable, on linux and freebsd system the largest it supports is 7422 byte frame. So I had to do it the hard way by setting the Windows systems to 7KB jumbo frame and after some careful calculation and confirmation by using ping -M do -s x ip on linux with x is the size of the packet I came to the magic MTU size of 7154 on Linux and BSD box. It sucks. It indeed puts less stress on your CPU for heavy LAN usage and in case your CPU is not fast enough it might increase speed a little but that's about it.

I think I will disable Jumbo Frames and see if that makes any difference.
I have an Intel Core i7 @ 4 Ghz. So I highly doubt it will put to much strain on my CPU.

You will see the best results from teaming only on the LAN side with file transfers between machines.  Your Internet connection is still at the mercy of your ISP, which is nowhere near the speed of the teamed connection.

Yes I do understand that; but I have to transfer files a lot (movies, iso's, etc.) to my other PC.
