Cameras that do NOT use Java?
« on: March 17, 2017, 12:14:13 PM »

Are there any dLink cameras that do NOT use Java for the live video? I had one blow during last weekend's storm but with Firefox dropping support for Java, I'm not going to be going with another dLink unless there's a reasonably priced (same range as DCS9xx series) non-Java firmware option. I don't see anything on the main web site that specifies whether or not Jaa is required for each camera.

You can still use FF for your browser:

Also IE11 still works as well.

I don't specifically if the DCS series has any non-java supported cameras off hand. Something you might ask phone support and see.

Thanks, but the FF workaround is temporary and requires one to forgo any updates, not a valid solution.  And I will definitely move to another brand of cameras if IE is the only recourse.  Given how long it took dLink to fix the comparatively simple issue of replacing the SSL cert in the firmware and that it's been public knowledge that Mozilla was withdrawing support for Java since 2015, I'm afraid I have no confidence in dLink providing upgraded, non-Java firmware for the current cameras in any reasonable timeframe.

I would phone contact D-Link support and ask them. Even though it may take a while, D-Link is aware of plug in issues and do correctly them, even though it may take longer that customers want. Development and testing takes time. Sorry.

Once MSFT withdraws support for IE11, these cams are obsolete. DLINK has no alternative technology and continues to push them knowing full well they have a certain expiration date. Seems to be legally they have a duty to disclose.

Have you read something that says MS is removing it from ie11?
From what I know, ie11 isn't going to receive changes like that.  It's pretty much mothballed.

Also D-Link supports MS Edge,  FF and Chrome browsers on there cameras.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support

Any browser support should be seen and disclosed on the support pages, for products and the mydlink.com site.

IMO MSFT could end support for IE11 in the next 2 to 3 years. And while Chrome works, it wont for the DNR202:
Duty to disclose IMO.

They'll disclose as they see fit based on Mfr support information.
