Hi everyone,
Wonder if you can help. I have a 320L, with a WD Green 3TB disk in it - this disk is not on the list of supported devices, but has worked just fine every since I put it in the NAS.
I am looking to get another disk to go RAID1, and I'm happy to carry out the procedure, but wondered if by having my initial drive not being on the supported devices list would this cause any problems?

• What Hardware version is your DNS? Look at the sticker behind or under the device.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
• What region are you located?

I presume if the drive as been working fine then adding one that is in the list should not present a problem a far as operation goes. If you have the ability and you have your data already backed up, you could test this out by adding a new drive and configuring the DNS for the mode you desire. Once configured, do some small data file copies to the DNS for short term operation and see how it does. Take note of any odd behaviors. If you don't find any, then go for full on usage.

I'm not sure the hardware version, but am currently running 1.06 firmware, and i'm in the UK.

I was thinking much the same as you in that there is no reason why it shouldn't work, but you never know with these things

Possible that the drive you installed was just never tested when they posted that drive list. Even thought the electronics on the drive are good, was just never officially tested. Let us know if you experience any issues. Good Luck.

Have other 3TB drives been tested?  Then it should work in theory.

Apologies Ryat3, you're right, i was discounting the Caviar models and hadn't checked the part number.

The only thing I would add is make a full backup of your data before you create you new RAID 1 array.  Odd things can happen (remember Murphy) and it is better to be safe than sorry.

is exactly what you need, and is a great walk through for people of any level of knowledge (I've done this sort of thing on UNIX servers before).
