Author Topic: How are you supposed to install this adapter? CD first or putting it it first?  (Read 4249 times)

On the guide it came with, it tells you to put it in your pci slot before running the CD.  A Dlink tech support guy told me to run the CD first, but you can't continue the installation on the CD without it being able to detect that you've already put the adapter into the slot...?  I also read online somewhere that if you put the adapter into your computer without installing the drivers for it first, it will never work properly. Any one know anything about this?

Samuel you will install the physical hardware first. Then boot to the computer and run the CD.
This is the standard install procedure for ALL PCI based peripherals, in all current XP and VISTA OS's.

As for PCMCIA and PCMCIAe adapters, the CD is run first, then during the install the user is prompted to insert the card.
This is because PCMCIA and PCMCIAe are hot swappable technologies.
PCI is not intended to be removed until the card is installed and the PC is turned off.
