Issues with my DIR-825
« on: November 04, 2015, 04:39:28 PM »

Internet:
Comcast 150Mbps down/11Mbps up (a lot of times I get about 170Mbps down)

Router:
Firmware: 2.09NA

Devices connected:
Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit Desktop - ethernet connected 3 feet away from the router/modem
One cell phone
One Google Chromecast - about 20 feet away
One DLINK DAP-1320 - about 30 feet away

All was fine. No problems for a long time. I could go out in the back yard with my cell phone. The back yard is very close to the DAP-1320. Not sure what happened recently. No power outages that I remember. Same wireless setup.

I tried to show something to my relatives on the TV from the Chromecast. The connection kept getting lost. I also noticed that my cell phone won't stay connected to WiFi either... I keep getting a message about an unstable connection on my phone. I also get a message about a weak signal sometimes, even though the little icon shows full bars on the WiFi signal and I am usually a foot away from the router.

Finally last night I turned off the power on my cable modem and router and turned them back on. It was 1AM so I had to get to sleep as I wake up 7AM for work. That did not resolve my cell phone issue.

So I get home from work tonight and I unplug and plug back in the DAP-1320. That solved my cell phone issue. Maybe now the Chromecast will work now. I haven't tested it yet.

I did run a speed test, though, and I'm getting about 120Mbps down, and my upload is less than 1Mbps!

Any ideas what I should check? My PC shouldn't be this slow since it's on ethernet. Brand new cable too.. well 3 or 4 months old. All cables are securely pushed in.

Should I try turning off auto channel scan and changing it myself? I had it set on Width 20Mhz, but now I am trying Auto 20/40Mhz.

I have both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz on.

I'd try troubleshooting with out the DAP being online and see if you find out anything.
Might disable the radio on the 825 and run the DAP in wired AP mode as a test to see if anything happens.

Haven't tried what you suggested yet. Will do that this weekend, but I did just think of something.

A few weeks ago I went on vacation. Driving. Day 2 of 6.. in Connecticut my engine light came on. My car is a 2009 Toyota Corolla. Should last me a lot longer, but instead of seeing how much the transmission would cost to fix, I bought a new car.

Now I rock a 2014 Corolla. It has Bluetooth. I just realized I have it the same name as my home network. Maybe that's an issue? Either way I'll change it now even before you say yes or no.

Well, I disconnected both the router and extender. Speeds were back to normal just connected directly to modem. I left it off since we last talked.. give it a good time away. Humans need a vacation from their job, right? Maybe it needed a vacation I thought. I haven't plugged the DAP back in yet.. only the router. My speeds are back to normal. I'm off to try the Chromecast now and see if it keeps connection.

Glad it's working better. No word yet. They have been working on it though from what I know. FW for the 890L is getting very nice. Down to a couple of bugs I think.

I am thinking I either wait for the AC5300 to come out, or when it does come out you upgrade to the AC5300 and I buy your old one cheap. :)

I keep getting tempted by.. um they either have a Netgear or a Linksys in store. It's only a slight temptation, though, because I've been very happy with this router and you're super nice.

Or you could get the 890L and then shut OFF the 825's wireless radios and connect the 890L in AP mode and that would be your new wireless upgrade for the 825.  ;D
