DAP-1520 Questions
« on: August 28, 2014, 09:46:23 PM »

I just got a DAP-1520, and I'm starting to think I just wasted $60...

I have a DIR-860L, with both SSIDs invisible, but at one end of the house.
I got the DAP-1520 to extend it throughout the house & outside.

1) I can't connect the DAP to the DIR unless the SSIDs on the DIR as "visible".  I can understand needing it to make the first connection (although I was a bit incredulous), but even once it is established, as soon as I hide the DIR's SSID, the DAP reboots, and loses its connection.

2) How can I hide the DAP's SSID?

If the answers to both of these aren't good, then I guess I need to return the unit for something else.

Any suggestions?

James

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router and DAP? Look at sticker under router and DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers and DAP web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Does the DAP have a manual custom input to set up SSID and PW instead of having it scan for SSIDs to select from?

As for hiding your SSIDs, it's doesn't take much for someone to find them when they are hidden. I might seem silly to have this hidden feature however most users don't use it or need it. Has to be there since it's a WiFi standard. So you may want to run visible for now...

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at sticker under the DAP case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and Model # is the main host router or wireless AP?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.
  • If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

What is the distance between the DAP and the main host router?
