Author Topic: DHCP Reservation is not working, printer keeps changing IP address  (Read 6893 times)

I used the DHCP reservation option to reserve an IP address for my printer.  The DHCP IP Address Range is 100 to 199,  I choose 192.168.2.197 for the printer.  I found the printer in the drop-down "Computer Name" list on the right and left the MAC address and computer name as the default the populated from the drop-down.  I tried using the IP address that populated with the drop-down and I also tried setting it as 197.  Everytime the printer is shut off and powered back on the printer gets a new IP address.

Am I missing something here?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

After you Reserve the IP address for the printer, you are select ADD or Save for the entry, then selecting Save Settings and maybe the router should let you know that the settings were saved? After this, try a reboot of the router then log back in and ensure that the reservation for the printer is saved in the list? Should say Never Expire or something similar.

Hardware Version is: Ax (according to the router web interface)   Firmware Version 1.14 (most current)   Minneapolis.   I saved the settings and rebooted the router and the computer and re-started the printer but the printer still gets a random IP address from the DHCP instead of taking the "reserved" IP address.

Can you reset the printer any? Factory Defaults?

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the printer. It was the printer!  The wi-fi router reserves an IP address but the printer controls whether it uses that specific IP address.  I followed the directions in the link below to change the printer from DHCP to static and enter the IP address that I reserved in the router.

You might ask HP or look to see if there maybe a FW update for the printer that might correct how the printer handles IP addressing.

Glad you got it working.
Enjoy.
