2 of my 2230s are having issues.

Chkdsk won't complete with /f or /r.
I can't format the cards on my desktop or laptop.
I can't even format in the 2230.

I enabled recording and the files stay showing up but when I download they don't play. . And when I reboot the camera the files disappear and the old ones return.

Is there anything more serious than chkdsk?

Found sdformatter 4.0 from sd group. .

Says card is write protected.

I've tried in 3 different adapters for my desktop. . I've flipped the little switch on the card and same thing.

Lots of googling produced not much.
Got some tool on Linux and that didn't even do it.

The only thing I see is that these SanDisk cards have an auto protect feature but I'm not sure that's what happened.
My other cards of same make have no issues.

I gave up for now. Ordered some new cards.

Found online video on YouTube about using msdos diskpart. After 48 hours formatting it finally got to 100% and failed and nothing happened to the sd card.

Is there a way to short the card?

2 messed up in 2 different 2230s.
A 3rd is half messed up.  If I reboot the camera when it
quits recording,  the file structure shows when it failed back in May. I doubt it is recording anything.

Something about these cameras burning out the SD cards after 6 months to a year.  The new cards appear to be working fine.

Another one bites the dust. I dated my record FileName July so I knew when I put it in. Last file was 7/27. 21 days and toast. Won't format in pc or dcs2230. Sdformatter on pc says it is write protected.

So a total of 4 botched San disk sd card 32gb. That's $20 a pop at today's prices.

I found one more trick online last night to try.

I have 8gb cards (WAY too small) in my cams and have been running them for 12 months on motion-detect and 6 months continuous record with no issues.  I think I'd like to migrate toward a Zoneminder system with a hard disk for continuous recording.  Have you considered going that route?

What brand of sd card?

I bought new cards today of different brands to use/test at my local Micro Center computer store.

2 32gb Micro Center branded $12.99 each
2 32gb Kingston $17.99 each
2 32gb Toshiba $19.99 reach.

If all of these gets locked them is the DCS-2230.

I'll keep posted here. The micro center cards are in.

2230-1 needed Rebooted to see the card as it was warning it wasn't properly formated, etc. But on reboot, the cameras file structure was available.

2230-2 had no issues with hot insert. File structure setup without issue.

I've done more digging on other sites.
The San disk sd card forum even had accusations of Sandisk collecting the cards data for users.

I'm guessing they have a pretty bad bunch of cards floating around .. I'm going to try to warranty some but receipts aren't my strong point

Need to look up Zoneminder.

It seems the hardware requirements are a bit steep.  I'd like to set up a mini-ITX server of some kind for centralized control and possibly better motion detection.  It's linux-based and has quite a following.

Damn bro.

Maybe it is the heat inside the camera causing the issue.
At 6 months that's hardly max life of sd card.
