Time for Dlink to get motivated
« on: October 18, 2013, 09:47:57 PM »

I had the previous gamers lounge and then this 5500 from day one of release.

I am not impressed

I have to reset the router every 3-5 days because it has issues handling traffic and lags out wifi.

The UI needs a graphics person to rework it.

I can only access the router by IP.

Streamboost seams to be a bit of a marketing ploy and not solid tech.  Hell, it thinks video streaming is general web traffic and that is an issue.

I am going to give this one more month then I am off to ASUS.  I have already contacted the credit card company I bough this with to file a defective product claim.

DLINK, look at your reviews by users on newegg, amazon and other placed.  You need to get it together.  I am regretting spending $200 on this product.

Have you tried the beta yet? Been working great for me. I'm not having reboot anything here. I think you need to give the beta a go.

This router may not support some features like other routers so, so create book mark or speed dial for the IP address for the log in page. It's really not that hard.

After I loaded the Beta, All I did was set up WiFi SSID names and PWs, set TIME and set 100.00 down and 10.00  up for ABE manually. Saved settings then re-enabled ABE, saved settings again and rebooted. Router as been doing very well using this process. Wireless is single N, WPA2/AES Only with HT20/40 Disabled and 2.4Ghz and Mixed ALL modes on 5Ghz, WPA2 and AES only. I have a bridged DIR-865L connected to the 5Ghz radio for roommates xbox 360 down stairs while mine is hard wired LAN. I didn't set any reservations for any of the devices as it seems that the router handles the devices better, at least for now. I set a higher priority for the 2 xboxes and let SB handle the rest. Gaming has been good and full green bars for the most part in game.

D-Link has read the reviews and is aware of everything and are "motivated". Show some patience please while they work on it. Things like this can't be fixed over night. If your not willing to try the beta then move on. Belly aching about won't help you or anyone.

Yes, thats the place.

I just set the xboxes and didn't touch anything else. Let the other devices fall wear they fall...

I believe SB handles what ever is set for the priorities. Similar to GF and QoS i think...

Ok updated to the newest firmware.  The install is still clunky.  Right after you do the install and final reset to default, it load up a set up screen in which it does not save anything.

And yes, I should have a lack of motivation.  This product should be more refined before release and not rely on a few of us that spent money to beta test it.

Well you seem to be the only one to seemingly has a problem with this router. Telling us that it's "clunky" doesn't mean anything nor provide any information to your problem with this router.

Your information seems to let us know that your process, impatience and configuration of this router is the issue here.

Maybe someone can review your router settings with you using Link> teamviewer if your interested. Its safe and secure.

If your not interested in this, then you'll need to contact D-Link support ON the PHONE and get there help with this. Maybe they can help you better.

If after you have exhausted all of these options, maybe someone would be willing to buy your 5500 from you so you can find something else that works for you and move on.

Be lucky your entire thread wasn't removed. This is not a forum for other competing router Mfr, if you want post about other router Mfrs, go to there forums. Trust me, we are not worried about you sir.

Good Luck!!!

I was coming back here to post some good feedback until I read this comment.  If you cannot face your competitors, look at their products and gain from them via feedback, then there will be problems.  EVGA, ASUS, CORSAIR encourage the healthy debate, because in the end it will make them stronger as they understand the consumer better.  If you get scared of product comparison, then well, the product will be mediocre at best.

And yes the last beta beta beta is a lot better.  The router is able to maintain a stable connection and not have the network lag out.  We will see how it goes as Cfos on all my rigs creates it profiles and becomes adaptive.

I really have no idea why Qualcomm choose D-link to be their partner. In CES 2014, Qualcomm is keeping on promoting their Wi-Fi technologies.

Indeed, Stream Boost technology is such a great technology, but DGL-5500 is stuck with an old and buggy firmware that has not been updated for 2 months already.

It is time for D-link to pay more attention for their product. Please release a new firmware for this router as soon as possible.

Actually the DGL is working very well since the FW has been updated aside a few items listed in the Bug list. Yes there has been some issues and they have worked to fix them and continue to improve. Qualcomm does the QoS engines and not the WiFi technology. Other Wifi Mfrs HW are used in D-link routers.

Also Zbeyuz, this router is not officially supported in your region. Your in Singapore right?  ???
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55110.0
The FW is NA region driven only and may not fully support any other regions and thus you may see incorrect operation that is not related to buggy FW. I recommend that you find a fully supported router that is supported in your region.

Good Luck.
