Statistics not keeping a history. Not showing other.
« on: October 17, 2013, 01:24:30 PM »

I've had this router now for just around two weeks. I really like it and I like the cool features through SteamBoost and statistics of what you've used. But mine keeps losing history.

The first time I noticed that it lost history, I guessed an update must've happened to the StreamBoost and it cleared the history? Testing, and being curious about StreamBoost, I have had a lot of wireless connections. Handheld games, cell phones, wireless laptops, tablets and my wireless HTPC connected. I intentionally used YouTube for video, played video games, general web use, speed tests in all kind of multi-use to include my wireless of watching TV a lot through my HTPC. None of my cable use. Using a cable card tuner through the wireless shows any data use at all. But that's is a side comment… Maybe cable TV data isn't the same? That's my not showing other, but it does show the equipment just not data. So I guess this is a two question post…  :)

I am now on the fourth time in two weeks, that I've opened up the browser in the router and where's my data, where is my history? It does offer daily, weekly and the months worth of history. It's new. I guess this is one of the bugs to fix. No power failures I know of, no unplugging and no cut or stop in my Cable/ISP service has happened.

What current FW version do you have loaded?

Have you tested the Build 10 of the Beta yet? Much improvements there.

FYI, there is limited memory storage on these routers so history might not be collected an maintained for a long period of time, however there should be some. It's possible that SB dates and factory resets could and probably do blow away any history data collection.

I have the newest FW installed.. 1.10b04

No I have not tried the 'beta' FW. The router has limited memory?.. It offers a 'month' worth of history on a router built for multiple simultaneous users with StreamBoost... I can't even get a week, not a few days.

As I stated, resets or power failures... but, I have done things that have done 'restarts'. Restarts should not erase history... I'm going to test that in a few days.

Try the new beta FW.

Keep us posted....If anyone else can have a look at this and report back...If you find the same thing, i'll forward this to D-Link for review.

Keep on it. Thank you everyone.

FurryNutz...

Do I 'Restore Factory Defaults' before and after installing the beta 'DGL5500A1_FW110B10.bin' FW? On the Maintenance/System page.. I read you post about the released FW.

I've done a lot of FW updates on my PC..but not on a router. Is this a back a forth capable FW update.. as in I can install the beta and have the option to reinstall the released version? My MB for example just had an FW update that does not allow reversal to previous releases unless they are numbered like the new type. ie: they went from 11.xx to 13.xx. Once you update to 13.xx you can not reinstall any 11.xx versions.

If it's all that easy.. I will install the beta and report back.

I did a few changes and restarts... the history did not reset. So, restarts do not seem to the reason for history loss. But, then I just played with restarts changing SSID name from original and Security Key.

I am also still curious why no up or downstream data shows when using my HDHomeRun cable card tuner? If I play the same Brighthouse TV on my cell phone, it shows active and data streaming use. My HDHomeRun that is active now shows that it's not an active connected item. I have to go to 'All Devices' to even see it.

Yes, please do a factory reset before and after sending the FW then setup from scratch. Want you to have a good install and setup of the router after the FW is loaded cleanly.

And I believe your ok going back to Build 04 as well. Just do factory resets before and after sending FW.

Here was I always do. Capture a config to file and name it for what FW version the config was saved from before doing the factory reset. That way If I need to, I can reload any prior version of FW and have a config file to go with it.  ;)

Config file is a good idea.. will be doing that.

I will stay in touch and advise about the history.

Thanks.

I am having the same problem with my Statistics history as well. I updated to the 1.10B10 beta yesterday morning to see if that would fix the issue but it hasn't. My router will only keep about a days worth of history. It's hard to know if there is something causing this issue like a bug. My router hasn't reset in over a day and there is nothing in the logs suggesting a problem. I also turned off auto streamboost updates as I thought maybe that was causing an issue. I also turned of ABE for performance reasons. Looking at the Firmware change log it doesn't look like they have address anything with the stats history through build 10 yet.

Build 10 is running really well on my 5500 router with no significant issues. A bit better performance overall, the best with ABE off and download/upload set to 100/10mb. It would be nice to have this feature work in the future.

I heard back from D-Link, History seems to handle from 2 weeks to 1 month depending on actual connected devices and what they seem to be doing which all this is a variable. There is memory on the router that handles this I guess however what it collects depends on what is going on on the client side and what data is being collected. D-Link is going to post a FAQ about this so all users of the 5500 will be informed and they looking into streamlining what statistical data is being collected and gathered for the history as well. And NO, there not collecting data for the NSA!!!  >:(

More to come. Please be patient.

Even if D-Link WAS gathering / collecting data for the NSA, do you think THEY would tell you that?   ::)  Not even gonna start to debate THAT issue!
