Hi,

I'm completely new to d-link routers having come from an apple wireless N router. I tried to setup port forwarding for my Xbox but it blocked all other devices from getting to the internet. So since I'm new I have a few questions.

• Do I need to lock the Xbox to a specific IP. It seems to be dynamically jumping around.
• Can I just use the mac address to lock it into the router and then have port forwarding always know which device it is?
• Should I just put the Xbox in the DMZ
• Are there any general guidelines for setting this router for Xbox Live. I was hoping this router would improve my lag/delay in Black Ops 2 but it doesn't seem to help and might actually be worse in many cases

I would be grateful if someone would give me a little guidance to get me started.

Yes, setting up a reserved IP address is highly recommend ON the router for ALL devices.

This router shouldn't need to use any PF or DMZ.

Supposed to get 20mb down and 10up but on my speed test I only seem to be managing 1.67 down and 8.3 up.

Look at the routers web page, Status/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the AN IP address field by chance?

I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

Ensure all other devices are turned off while speed testing to be sure there isn't any interferences.

Check cable between Modem and Router and wired LAN devices, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.

3rd Party Security Software Configurations

• Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

• Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

I looked at what I'm assuming is the WAN IP and it was not a 192#. Not sure, should I post what the number was?  Also, I turned streamboost off and now I'm getting full download speed, at least to my computer where I was running speedtest.

No please don't post your WAN IP address, it should be similar to this format: ##.##.###.###. If it is your getting a Public IP address which is preferred.

I wonder if there could be a compatibility issue between your ISP modem and SB.

Did you reserve the IP addresses on the router for all devices?

I will look into that, but I did see there was a post about people having issues on comcast with DNS. I tried going to the link but it wouldn't let me access the opt out page.

You might want to phone contact your ISP and ask them about this, if your on Comcast and there DNS feature is enabled on your network, could be a possible cause of your problem.

Also, fixed stream boost. User Error - I had my download speed set to 2mb for some odd reason and so my stream was being managed to 2mb per sec.

You may want to read this article written by Furry, really is a great article that covers all basis of XBOX live. The middle of the page will give you specifics in term of the DGL 4500/5500 port forwarding...etc

Guys just a bit of an update. Sold my XBOX 360, I boroughed my friends until the XBOX1 arrives in Nov. When I configured the DGL-5500 2 weeks ago, I proactively used the port forwarding rules Furry had stickied that covers it ALL.

The port forwarding rules that work for the 4500 also works for the 5500. After I configured the Xbox wireless on the 2.4ghz, ran a XBOX live test, everything was a green check mark. I logged back into my profile and played GOW judgement had OPEN NAT..no issues and ran great.

BTW ....friend has the older XBOX, with the external wireless covers both the 2.4 & 5ghz bandwidth, although initially I had 1 bar on the 5ghz, I updated the xbox on that freq. and when it rebooted, there were more updates and it lost the signal all together. So I ended up using the 2.4 for gaming. Have to admit the 5ghz amp is weak, I was really hoping for a much better signal. My DIR865-L reached in those areas and was great!!!
