DNS-325 - Firmware v1.04b05 - Comments & Observations
« on: July 24, 2013, 05:20:28 AM »

D-Link published DNS-325 firmware version 1.04b05 for hardware versions A1 and A2 on the D-Link Taiwan site (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/).

Please post your comments and observations as a reply to this thread.  :)  ;)  :)

Firmware Upgrade Note

Although this firmware was publicly published by D-Link for global distribution, D-Link USA still has yet to green light the firmware for publication on the US FTP and website. D-Link USA has it's own secondary QA process that all releases must pass before they publish locally in the US.

Linux kernel seems to be updated to 2.6.31.8 from 2.6.22.18 that was used from 1.01 to 1.03.
Also Network UPS Tools have received a welcome bump to 2.6.4

IE10 now works to access the management pages without compatibility mode.

The System Status / Resource Monitor feature is NICE.

All of the previous settings and installed apps (Surveillance Center) were retained and worked after the upgrade, with only two exceptions...

After the firmware update, the time and time zone appeared to be set correctly in System Management / Time and Date, but the time stamps appearing in the logs were off by 3 hours.  Resetting the time zone and time fixed the log time stamps.

With Power Management / Fan Control Settings set to Auto ( Off / Low / High ), there isn't enough of a pause when checking the fan status after the fan goes from off to low.  A fan error message is logged every time, when switching from off to low.  Here's what the log looks like:

11:41:31 Set Fan Speed To "LOW".
11:41:31 Fan Is Unable To Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist.

The fan spins up normally.

The previous firmware didn't have this problem.

The System Status / Resource Monitor feature is NICE.

This feature is standard on the DNS-345. I'm glad they ported the functionality over to the DNS-325.

Can other DNS-325 owners validate a difference with the fan behavior between fw v1.04 and the prior release?  ???

This morning, I noticed that there were no "Surveillance Center" motion events between 2:30 and 3:30 am.

Then, after 3:30 am, the "Surveillance Center" recording times were an hour ahead of the times shown in the camera on-screen displays.

I checked the System Management / Time and Date settings.  Date and Timezone were correct, but the time was one hour fast.

NTP Server is set to time.windows.com (for some reason, I'm not using the dlink servers that are populated in the drop-down menu).

Maybe this is some sort of daylight savings time feature gone awry in the new firmware.  Or maybe the new firmware just doesn't like the time.windows.com ntp server...

When I look at the log, I see mysterious entries starting at 2:27 am...no one was accessing the DNS-325 at this time...

Jul 25 02:17:05 Set Fan Speed To "LOW".
Jul 25 02:17:05 Fan Is Unable To Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist.
Jul 25 02:23:09 Set Fan Speed To "STOP".
Jul 25 02:27:57 Set System Time.
Jul 25 03:30:11 System Time Is Updated By RTC.

Jul 25 04:06:28 Set Fan Speed To "LOW".
Jul 25 04:06:28 Fan Is Unable To Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist.

I will report back if this happens again tomorrow morning.

Yes, I observe the same messages occasionally on mine.
In addition, the new airplay_daemon complained about Libgcrypt warning: missing initialization - please fix the application

This morning, the DNS-325 time is correct...it didn't jump ahead by an hour like yesterday morning.

I think it may have been some kind of daylight savings time glitch.

The log shows a "Set System Time" entry at 2:30 am:

Jul 26 02:23:55 Set Fan Speed To "LOW".
Jul 26 02:23:55 Fan Is Unable To Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist.
Jul 26 02:29:59 Set Fan Speed To "STOP".
Jul 26 02:30:06 Set System Time.
Jul 26 03:11:26 Set Fan Speed To "LOW".
Jul 26 03:11:26 Fan Is Unable To Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist.
Jul 26 03:17:31 Set Fan Speed To "STOP".

If the time continues to work, then the only trouble that I see with this firmware concerns the bogus "Fan Is Unable to Spin Or Fan Doesn't Exist" log messages.

So far, everything else is working...

I reported the fan error messages back to D-Link along with the URL for this FW comments thread for monitoring other issues.  ;)

Are there other DNS-325 users who are able to successfully use this functionality? Can anyone replicate/validate this issue?  :-\  ???

Once I enable IPv6, I can no longer switch it off. I can change IPv6 between Auto, DHCP and Static, but once I try to set it Off, it says I need to re-login and before even storing the settings, it redirects me to login screen.

EDIT:
Indeed, the function that handles this, seems to have a void action on setting 'off' (ipv6Diag.js, line 253):
Code: [Select]
if(mode=="off")
{
alert(_T('_wizard','relogin_msg'))
location.replace("http://" + mainFrame._IPV4_IP[0]);
}
As a temporary workaround, one can issue from browser:
Code: [Select]
http://<yourNASip>/cgi-bin/network_mgr.cgi?cmd=cgi_set_ipv6&f_ipv6_mode=off
