maximum users with DSL-6740U
« on: May 19, 2013, 01:49:23 AM »

Hi,

We are a small office, with about 40 users.
20 are upstairs and connect thru wireless to a cisco router, which is wired to the DSL-6740U.
20 are downstairs - about 5 are wired and 15 are wireless connected to the DSL-6740U modem/router.

From time to time we get delays or internet fail and have to restart the modem/router. We upgraded the line  to 30M, but no improvement.

Are we putting too many users on this device?

Thanks,
oresh

Link>Welcome!

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Ensure the phone lines for the DSL service are in good working condition, signal is at proper levels from the ISP and ensure the DSL phone line is filtered correctly

Ensure the other Cisco router is not interfering with NAT issues as having 2 routers on the same system can cause problems.
