Upload in DIR-600 failing
« on: November 27, 2012, 01:00:21 AM »

I have a DIR-600 connected to the CAT 5 cable provided by my ISP.

My ISP has put a switch on top of my building and the internet connection come in my apartment as CAT 5 cable.

My  D Link DIR-600 has been configured in PPPoE mode by the ISP.

Its a standard configuration otherwise that you get after a reset. No changes done to Firewall, Advance network option etc.

My Problem:
While I get a good download speed, I am not able to upload any files.
When I try to attach files, it fails most of the times, sometimes it goes forward somewhat and then stops.

If I do a speed test on www.speedtest.net, download speed is good but for Upload, it keeps on showing "Connecting" and then it fails.

Can anyone please help !!!!  :o

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

Thank you for your reply and various options.
I have tried the options that you have given for setting up the router but it didn't help.  :(

I am using DIR 600 Firmware version 2.02 dated 21 Dec 2009. When I check for latest firmware, it says this is the latest one.
Hardware version B2 FW Ver 2.03
Region is India.

I tried both, wired as well as wireless connections.

In one of the post of this forum, it was mentioned to change the Speed & Duplex option in Advanced setting of the LAN card of laptop. I changed that to 1 GBPS Full Duplex.
On my router, when I check Maintenance\System Check option, It shows VCT info as Internet 100 Mbps Half Duplex and LAN port where I connected the cable as 100 Mbps Full Duplex.

I took the router to Dlink Service center. Funny thing is that tested it with their DSL connection and upload worked. They could upload the file thru router. Even then, they changed the circuit board of router as my router is in warranty but still it does not work :(

As I said earlier, when I remove the router from the connection and put the ISP CAT V cable directly in my laptop, upload works great but with router in between, it does not even go above 0.

I am using a PPPoE connection from my ISP. Tried changing MTU from 1492 to 1452 but did not help.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Thanks again.
I will attempt to give answers to best of my knowledge:

1) I have a Direct DSL (thats what the provider says).

We have a wireless connectivity to nearby building and the Antenna is on top of our building.
From the Antenna, a cable comes down and goes into POE device.
From POE device, there is a cable to switch from where connections are given using CAT V cables to various apartments in the building including mine.

The CAT V cable coming to my aparment goes to WAN port of my DIR 600 wireless router.
The connection configured in my DIR 600 router is PPPoE

2) There is not modem used by ISP.

3) No modem provided by ISP

4) I do not see 192.168.0.# IP address in WAN port.

5) I had tried putting the laptop I use in DMZ but that too did not work.

Please advise further.

Thank you again for your help. !!

Hello

Thanks again for all your suggestions and efforts.
My problems has been resolved. The problem was with the CAT V cable running from my apartment to the switch installed by ISP in my building.

Now I get 8 MB download and 8 MB upload speed.

Happy New year 2013 to you.
