Did you simply tell Tech support that the modem wasn't working or did you tell them that the poor DIR-857 was struck by lightening?
I was honest and told them that it was a lightening storm that caused it. I told them several times as a matter of fact.And that place I mentioned earlier that fixes modems deals only with cable providers, it's not worth fixing a single modem.
So, it DOES pay to be honest I'm rather surprised that D-Link is openly covering the modem considering the circumstances causing the damage. Kudos to D-Link support!

The price is D-Link's MSRP, which is significantly higher than any retail/online store. Best to return the unit. . . and quickly!
