We would like to understand the names that can be assigned for
routers and how they are used and the importance of each.

We have read alot of posts and all the config information, but
we  still have not quit understood what the function of each is ?


What is the purpose of the following, if you have a moment and
have a good understanding of their uses.


Internet
Host name :  DIR-615   
                                             
Wireless
network name: DIR-615 (also called SSID)

network settings
Device name : Dlinkrouter

The Dlink helpful hints on the right side of the router setup screens pretty much describe those names.  Click 'more' at the bottom to see all the text.

Host name is the name your ISP will see associated with your cable/dsl modem account.

Device name is a short cut name you could type in your browser to call up the router menu.  Instead of typing http://192.168.0.1 you could type http://dir825 or whatever name you set

SSID is the name of your wireless network.  Your laptop or your visitors laptop will try to list all the wireless networks nearby to connect to.
