Wireless Stopped Working, Cannot Access Web Interface
« on: March 03, 2012, 03:09:12 PM »

I set up my DIR-645 router yesterday and it seemed to be working fine.  I didn't change any of the default settings other than setting up the ssid and password for the wireless network.  Then this morning wireless connections stopped working.  I powered the router off and back on and found that the Internet light and the wireless light were no longer lit.  Fortunately the wired connection to the router is still working, but I can no longer access the web interface.  I tried doing a factory reset of the device, but that had no effect.  Holding down the reset button for 10 or more seconds does not cause the device to reboot itself.  The router came with firmware version 1.01, but I can't update the firmware because I can't access the web interface of the device.  The modem I'm using is a stand alone Motorola Surfboard SB5101.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Factory reset the router using back button?
Swap cable btwn modem and router?
Also recommend SB 6121 modem.

Like I said, I've tried to do a factory reset, but holding down the reset button doesn't actually reset the router; as far as I can tell it has no effect at all.  The cable doesn't seem to be the problem as the wired connection still works fine aside from not being able to access the web interface.  Just to make sure, I tried swapping it out, but there was no difference.  I'm stuck using my current modem as getting a new modem would be much more of a hassle than getting the router replaced.
Is there any other way you know of to do a factory reset?
Thank you for your help.

Is there a way I can do that without having any access to the web interface?

Need to do the following and see, can you set up a static IP address of 192.168.0.50 on your wired PC?

Review the FW update sticky and see if you can get the Recovery mode to come up on the router.

I just started having this same problem this morning.

If I'm on wired ethernet, I can access the internet, but not the web interface. I've tried a factory reset, but it doesn't appear to do anything. When trying to install the firmware via the static IP method outlined in the sticky, I still can't connect to the device.

Anything else I can try? Did the original thread creator ever discover a solution?

Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the 4500 gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Some things to try:
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.
Turn off Short GI, WLAN Partition and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
I just started having this same problem this morning.

If I'm on wired ethernet, I can access the internet, but not the web interface. I've tried a factory reset, but it doesn't appear to do anything. When trying to install the firmware via the static IP method outlined in the sticky, I still can't connect to the device.

What Hardware version is your router? A1
What Firmware version is currently loaded? Can't connect to the web interface to confirm but I believe I was on 1.01
What region are you located? US - Texas
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Before today I was connecting both wireless and wired, but not only Wired works.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Cable
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? Stand Alone
What ISP Modem make and model do you have? SB 6120

Some things to try:
Unfortunately I can't try any of these because I can't connect to the web interface.

The Wireless doesn't transmit at all anymore, if that matters. I can only get a connection via wired at the moment. Let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks!

Ok, lets try this, turn off everything accept for one wired PC.
Disconnect the WAN Internet cable from the back as well.

Do a factory reset on 645 and use any browser to see if you can get to the web page.
You should be able to get to the web page and configure it manually.
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat6 is recommended.

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, even trying this I wasn't able to connect to the web interface. I tried multiple cables, which I confirmed to work on other devices.

It's worth noting that the reset did not appear to do anything. The device did not automatically reboot even after holding the reset button down for a long time.

My computer appears to be seeing the router in the sense that it shows it is connected to an "unknown network" on the network and sharing center (win 7 64-bit) but trying to connect to http://192.168.0.1 times out every time.

Ok, lastly, can you get the router in a recovery mode? Review the FW update sticky and there is a process to try and get into recovery mode. If so, you might reload code or upload the Beta FW if your interested. If you can't get into recovery mode then I'm going to recommend that you return this unit to place of purchase or start and RMA with DLink.

Okay, just to confirm I should try the DIR Router Recovery from Corrupt Firmware in this thread: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42445.0 right?

No luck - even after manually setting my IP and doing the reset as specified in those instructions I wasn't able to connect. Looks like I'll have to get a replacement. Thanks for your help, though!
