Does this not work with Win 2008 R2 x64?
« on: July 23, 2011, 03:54:26 PM »

I can't tell if they just don't acknowledge it as supported because it's newer and a fringe option, or if it's flat out unsupported. The software definitely doesn't work on it because it required Wlanapi.dll (something found in Win 7, but not Win 2008).  Well anyway I installed the drivers for it just fine, but there is no wireless networks found.  Right next to that server is my main PC and my other Dlink wireless adapter is receiving 7+ networks.

So, since there's no error, how do I diagnose this?

It's Windows server, but it's built to take advantage of Win 7 features. Link to Microsoft

Hi GEN3RIC,

What is the version of the Drivers that you installed? Also, are you using DWA-552 PCI or DWA-556-PCI-Express Card?

Sorry, I thought I enabled email notification on replies.

It's a 552, not 556. i've got two of these buggers. Both are revision A1, one is FW 1.1 and the other 1.4, and neither work.

I should also mention that I am having severe drop-out issues with my primary PC (Win 7 x64) (RevA1, FW1.4)..but I'll make another thread for that.

Hi GEN3RIC,

There is no Firmware for the DWA-552 PCI Adapter Card. There are drivers. I have version 1.60 of the D-link Drivers and while it not good for recording TV Shows, I disable the Adapter when recording. I hardly ever drop the wireless connection to my DIR-655 A3 Router.

It says the firmware version right on the physical card. All hardware has firmware.  I didn't imply it was able to be upgraded, just that it is running that particular firmware.

So am I correct in assuming that the drivers do not support Win 2008 R2? I'll just find something else.

Hi GEN3RIC,

Try these drivers. I copied the Drivers' location:
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwa552/Drivers/dwa552_drivers_170.zip
