DNS-323 doesn't reconnect after DNS reboot

Hello All

I have issues with my DNS-323 not reconnecting after the DNS itslef reboots. Any help is appreciated.

- Configuration: Windows 7 x64, Ethernet 100Mbps network, DNS-323 2x2TB RAID 1, firmware 1.09
- Step 1. Map Z drive in Windows with Esay Search Utility.
  - Create a user for DNS, allow SMB share R/W access to the disk volume for all users
  - Use Esay Search to map Z drive to DNS volume
  - Access is fine from Windows

What I have discovered is that
1. rebooting Windows is fine -> drive volume maps at next Windows boot
2. rebooting DNS-323 unit isn't fine -> drive volume does not map at next boot up!
    trying again to map the volume to a Windows drive doesn't work at all anymore
    to have it connect again, it is necessary to enter the DNS configuration utility, delete the SMB share access configuration, create a new one (even if the same) and re map from Windows

This sounds really much like a DNS bug.
Any idea?

Try using a static IP address on the DNS323 and mapping using the IP rather than host name.

This is probably a DHCP problem.  As dosborne stated above, try setting the DNS-323 to a static IP address in config.

Something very similar to that has been reported before - SAMBA for some reason doesn't do what it should unless you "touch" it - that's not my choice of words, it's what I recall other folks saying (I've never experienced the problem personally).

Have you tried resetting to defaults & reconfiguring - did you upgrade to 1.09 and was a reset done after the upgrade?

This is a master browser problem and has been reported several times, the DNS-323 will become the master browser regardless of what is happening in your network, so when the DNS-323 is the first device turned on in your network than other devices are turned on everything works fine, but if the DNS-323 is turned on after another device is already the master browser than you get 2 master browser and the DNS-323 is not contactable.

You do not have to delete the network share all you have to do is edit and save without changing anything (touch) the share will cause an election for the master browser position and the DNS-323 will win.

This is what I have experienced anyway.
