Firmware 1.21 on the DAP-2553 breaks Wireless Client mode
« on: March 11, 2011, 09:10:25 AM »

I've got a DAP-2553 set up as a Wireless Client, 5GHz 11n only WPA1,2/TPIK that connects to a DAP-1522 AP. The 2553 is at FW 1.06 and the 1522 was at 1.21 and everything was fine for a long time.

I upgraded the 2553 to FW 1.21 and it would no longer connect to the 1522. I downgraded the 2553 back to 1.06 and it again connects to the 1522. I upgraded the 2553 again and it wouldn't connect, downgraded it again and it connects.

So D-Link support told me to upgraded the 1522 to 1.31, so I did. The 2553 was still able to connect to the 1522 at 1.31.

So I tried the upgrade on the 2553 to 1.21 and again it would not connect to the 1522. Downgraded the 2553 to 1.06 and it connects just fine.

Passed all this on to D-Link Support but they haven't gotten back to me. This is no surprise, past experience dealing with D-Link support leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyone else having/had this issue with the 2553 and FW 1.21 in Wireless Client mode? Anyone got it working??

I checked all the configs and they are correct, even reset them up and redid the passphrase when at 1.21 on the 2553. When I make the 1522 visible and scan on the 2553 the 2553 sees the 1522 but refuses to connect.

I had *exactly* the same problem going from 1.12 to 1.20.  Back to 1.12, everything's fine.  The other thing I noticed is that under 1.20 (and probably 1.21 also), the signal strength of the clients on the DAP-2553 status page was much higher than with the 1.12 firmware.

It's disappointing that 1.20 broke 5 GHz.  It would be great to install the 1.21 security patch.

PS: This problem doesn't seem to happen with 2.4 GHz.  I'm running 1.21 on my 2.4 GHz DAP-2553 just fine.
