FTP faster than SMB?
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:48:20 AM »

Hi!

I just bought a DNS-323. I have 1.06 firm on it and everything is untouched. No funplug, no nothing.

There are 2 1TB Drives in it and I user it over 100 Mbit lan. The diskas are in RAD1.

My problem that using Total Commander or Explorer with mapped network driver (\\ip\sharename) the write speed is ~7000k and read is about ~9000k
(If i copy from the same machine to my laptop the smae files, same mapping - \\laptopip\sharename - i get 9000k write and about 9000k read speed)

I would think that this is the hard driver or the lan cabel or anything BUT...

If i try the same files with FTP from the same machine, I get 8000k write and 10000k read.

How is this possible? What am I doing wrong? I think the bottleneck should be the 100Mbit lan but than why is FTP faster?

Thank you for any suggestions in advance,
