Is it okay to use another power adapter?

Hi there ,
Today my little brother accidentally threw away my power adapter,So I need to get a new one
But I can't find an original D-Link Dir 655 power adapter (I searched the whole day believe me)
So i wanted to ask if its okay to use an universal power adapter with 12 volts and I think it was about 2 ampere and more (I couldn't understand those +300 ampere thing).

Please HELP ME!

Yes you can as long as the voltage is the 12V mentioned.

Make sure your supply is able to deliver the minimal current needed.

Make sure you using 12volt DC (+-) a 2Amp is doing the thing.

But I`m mostly worried about the amperage ??? what do you think ?
I heard that its really bad if its lower than needed , but ok if higher is that right ???

The unit will only draw the current that it requires; the rated current is the maximum output.

Obviously make sure the polaity on the tip is correct for the device you are plugging in to...not all adapters are the same.....

What is polaity?

I know about polarity but what you wrote I do not know about.

It is right the unit will draw only the current it needs. But it is better to buy an adapter which the current rating matches the stock adapter. Otherwise, if the router draws more current than the adapter can provide. It may catch fire. It is not joking, so you are better to pay a little bit more to buy the one which is equal or greater than the Dlink power supply current rating.
