  I used to be able to send notifications on log full etc...  When my ISP was still allowing outbound email w/opt out of block on port 25. This worked on my old DI-524, and used to work on my DIR-655.

In an effort to clamp down on spam my ISP formerly SBC now AT&T began requiring SSL. Secure Authentication is not required. With the ever increasing concern for controlling spam DLink really needs to get in gear and provide the support customers need and back the efforts of ISP's to control spam. Otherwise it's wasted code occupying space. On that note if space is a concern, need space for the code ~ throw SecureSpot out  !

This is the one remaining issue I know of that plagues what is otherwise a great device.

On the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings window click Edit and verify:
# Server Name - displays smtp.att.yahoo.com.
# Port - displays 465.
Note:  When updating the secure server settings, check SSL checkbox first to update the port setting.

    * Under Outgoing mail (SMTP),  the box next to server requires a secure connection (SSL) is checked.

This works flawlessly with Thunderbird and other mail clients therefore it is clearly a shortcoming of the firmware on the DIR-655 i.e. no SSL? This is totally inadequate.

Normally, this type of features is made to be used with private e-mail servers, not public ones, is not an issue, is just how it is.

There is nothing in any documentation to support your claim. It was marketed as a feature, I have a copy  (hard) of that document. No where in any prior documentation is the suggestion that you must run your own email server. The product is marketed as a residential home product not a commercial one where one might expect to find an email server. No as a home residential product it is extremely UNCOMMON to find an email server.

This needs to be FIXED, this is a significant issue. As I said before this is the only remaining issue I see as needing attention. 1.33b02 otherwise seems to be a very stable firmware. I know there are others, many others that will likely disagree with me on that. I stand my ground though.

Looks like it kind of was fixed, but not fixed in previously made products.

D-Link's DCS-932L Wireless N Day/Night Home Network Camera supports sending e-mail via SSL/TLS.

I'm using a DIR-825, revision 2.  I purchased it less than 6 months ago and I'm really upset that I can't send my logs via e-mail because my SMTP server requires SSL or TLS.

I have tried smtp.live.com, tried port 25 and 587.
I have tried SSL-TLS on and off
I even found some additional server names to try like mx2.hotmail.com.

Need help as this is just not working.

Yes, I had this same issue while setting up my DGL-4500. It doesn't use SSL. I found a work around for my provider, not sure if it will work for yours. A couple steps for prep.

1. Is your email account working? Log into ATT webmail interface and log in. This will also confirm your username and password.

2. Sign into the account your sending too, make sure all spam settings are disabled or atleast to mark only as spam. This can be re-enabled once we confirm the email is sending.

From Email Address: [email protected] (your ATT email)
To Email Address:[email protected]
SMTP Server Address: smtp.att.yahoo.com
SMTP Server Port:587
Enable Authentication : Checked
Account Name:[email protected]
Password: <insert password here>
Verify Password: <insert password here>

4. Got to Status > Logs. Make sure the Informational  is clicked (so we can see if it worked).Click on email now. Then hit refresh. Watch the process as it tries to send the mail. If it says "SMTP client succeeded sending email" then check your [email protected] email, see if you got it. If it fails, reply with the failure.
