Ya his connection is probably 12 Mbps down like mine is 16Mbps down.

Still, the speedtest is not accurate at all and is why I use the one at dslreports site.

well i wouldn't call them slow downloads. Your just getting used to your own greed.

no man they are slow , in firefox i should have speeds of around 400kb/s-500kb/s when downloading from sites like rapidshare or megaupload,  why is this guys? and another thing, i do a speed test on both speedtest.net and dslreports and i get a download speed of 3MB/s, at first when i got my DIR 655 and i ran a speed test the test gave a result of 15mb/s, what happened?

How is that possible? and why would they do that?   i just got my bil yesterday and im still paying the same..

perhaps your ISP is using a multilink negotiation to give you that speed. Which is why you see great speeds in torrents and other clients that make mulitple connections to split the data up, and you don't see as great speeds when downloading from a server using a client that only opens 1 tcp stream or 1 connection.

I have a mult-wan connection and that is what I experience.

but my friend who lives a few blocks near me has the exact same service and he gets very fast download speeds in firefox

If you are on Cable, the more users you have in your area can have an effect on overall speed.  The Cable line is shared once you hit the pole outside the house..

Years ago this used to be true but with all the network upgrades this is really non existent (at least with Comcast).
What some DSL users do not realize is they also share connection once it gets to the CO.

Could it be virus scanning is interacting?

Noticed in AVG that there is some site checking active, resulting in incomplete page build up.
Switched it off and not is ok again.
