GameFuel, VoIP and SIP ALG packet rejected.
« on: January 25, 2008, 07:07:55 AM »

Everytime I get an incoming phone call to my VoIP, it goes straight to voice mail.

[INFO] SIP ALG rejected packet from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:12816

I've tried:
Putting it in DMZ.
Disabling SIP in ALG settings.
Opened up ports for 12816.
Followed the instructions in Portforward.com.

I searched around and someone thought it was GameFuel that was causing the problem.

Someone please help.

Similar issue?
I am trying to get voip to work and provision. It provisions if I hook the viop ata directly to the cable modem. If I hook it up to the DGL-4500 voip ata does not provision.
It does take an IP address from the router.
It does not get a dial tone.
I notice inthe logs there are blocked packets...I am asuming it is voip since I clear out everyitng and turn it all back on with only those two things needed and I see the errors.
Stuff like this:
[INFO] Sun Feb 03 15:19:50 2008 Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) from 192.168.0.5 to 221.6.145.18

I get others coming into the router as well.
I have made sure the voip's ip addres is valid.
I have set it up the DMZ, did not stop the errors...no dial tone.
I have trouble shot with voip provider - since I can hook it up to the Cable Modem directly and I can make and recieve calls, it is not their problem!

HELP! New DGL-4500 router... How to make voip work?

Upgrade the firmware to 1.02MS and see if the ALG is still refused.

There is no firmware update listed like that under DGL-4500
I had Dlink Tech support upgrade the firmware last week...anyways.

This MS beta code has helped a lot of people.

See if it helps you.

Who is the VOIP carrier and what is the model of the ATA?

I sent this problem to D-Link Technical Support.
I thought I'd share this one here:

I am running Verizon VoiceWing with ZyXel Prestige P2302R.

Quote
Ok, remove the DMZ, then forward the PORTs. Leave the ALG disabled.
The port forward and the DMZ will conflict.
Then create a QoS for the VoIP device and you should be good.(Gamefuel Rule)

The Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) messages from the logs I believe is from Gamefuel.

Now, if you prioritize your VoIP over your game packets, kinda defeats the purpose of using a DGL-4500 for Gamefuel(QoS) in the first place.

I've tried using Firmware 1.02MS with not much luck either.
Going back to 1.02, all settings reset, the messages:
[INFO] SIP ALG rejected packet from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:12816
doesn't show up anymore and I get incoming calls just fine.

Not sure what happened, but it looks like before I got my VoIP, I configured my router the way I wanted it(opening ports for games), then I added VoIP and somehow didn't play well with DGL-4500.
Resetting the router back to 1.02 with default settings, while VoIP is connected and has a static IP, it works.

Not exactly.
I just connect everything into my DGL-4500, then reset it to factory default.

Reconfigured the router.

I still get Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) messages when I'm playing WoW or any online games, but it doesn't affect my incoming or outgoing calls anymore.
I just think, it's Gamefuel putting non gaming packets aside, in layman's terms.
Not really a network engineer here.

Yea, thanks. That did not work. I proved to myself that the router is the problem in this situation.
I hooked up my old (and slow) netgear router...VoIP worked...not great quality, but that is due to the router.
I appreciate your thoughts and help.
Thanks.

If you prioritize the gaming over your VOIP then of course your goiung to have poor call performance.

Like I've stated before the ICMP Type 3 has nothing to do with VOIP. It is a destination Host Unreachable error message. That is a standard [info] type log statement. VOIP should allways be the lowest priority number, even over gaming. That way your calls are clear and echo free. It won't effect your gaming that much, I'd wager that you won't even notice.

I keep my gaming TCP ports at 2
I keep my VOIP  at 5
and i keep my gaming UDP ports at 10
and my Bit torrents at 254
