Not impressed with the lack of support...
« on: October 22, 2017, 10:42:21 PM »

Just bought 2x2 of these to replace a bunch of older Dlink cameras.
No Ethernet port, no browser support, no telnet... this makes it perform only if DHCP was available.
Paired with a DIR-890L that has faulty wireless DHCP function (when using static IP), the setup experience is just horrible.
Please let me know how it's possible for me to set static IP on these - otherwise I'm returning the whole lot of them.

while trying to turn off the default motion sensor event (by default motion and sound are on), the unit's green light just turned off (no lights) at all.
Couldn't even turn off; had to unplug and re-plug in.
Seriously...

What FW is currently loaded on the 890L?

What wireless modes are you using on the 890L? Smart Connect enabled or disabled?
Thought you had got your router working on last posts about it:

D-Link moved away from initial installation of cameras using browsers and went with mobile app installation. Also go rid of LAN ports as well. No sure why. Telnet probably removed due to security concerns and proofing.

After getting the camera set up, can you access any UI at it's Dynamic IP address?

Unfortunately there is no way to set a static IP address to these cameras.

DIR-890L    HW:A1    FW:1.11

  • SmartConnect disabled;
  • 2.4GHz and the other 25GHz all use the same SSID name and password
  • Wifi Protected setup is also disabled

Yes that's what I thought as well; it worked only for a bit and then the issue came back again.
The 2nd issue is the inaccurate number of connected devices; I have at least 17 devices connected to it (15 cams + another router + the DViewCam machine, but now it just reports a variable number that's never accurate.

D-Link moved away from initial installation of cameras using browsers and went with mobile app installation. Also go rid of LAN ports as well. No sure why. Telnet probably removed due to security concerns and proofing.
I don't think the removal of a physical LAN port is wise; perhaps it's a strategy to differentiate between personal vs business line of products.
ie I'd strongly prefer wired installations for higher bandwidth and clearer footage; ease of installation is not a concern.

Well I could only connect the cameras to another wireless network that has DHCP working;
The message when I both camera's url is -
File is not found.
please enter correct url.

Unfortunately there is no way to set a static IP address to these cameras.

I remember seeing the bluetooth icon on the product page somewhere, and each camera has a 6 digit pin code which leads me to believe that it's possible to connect to it.
I can appreciate DLink trying to enhance security, but I don't appreciate limiting its usability this way.
I'm going to try the new firmware and see if it's possible to reserve ip addresses for these new cameras. If it doesn't work I'd rather move to HikVision that is cheaper and has better specs.

Upgraded FW to 1.20b01 dated 201709;
DHCP seems to be working now and the number of connected devices is closer to the true list.

However, DViewCam can't connect to the camera DCS-8000LH.

Don't know if DVC is supported for these model cameras...you might try setting a DCS-942L and see if you get any video...may or may not work.

The problem is that although port 80 is reachable, I have no idea how the communication works; perhaps I should just check the NAT tables.

Meanwhile, here's an email that I've just received
Hi XXX,

We have check with our Product Management team about future compatibility between the D-View Cam software and the DCS-8000LH cameras. The DCS-8000LH model will not be supported in D-View Cam for remote viewing or recording.

Are you trying to test this on your local network? I'll have to look again and see what ports I'm using. I had to manually set up mine since the 960L wasn't supported. I shows video, just no sound is all.

Yes testing the 8000LH on the local network.
I'm not sure if I can name the software; let's just say that in order to look at the traffic I had to use a well-known software.
I also setup an ad hoc network - which unfortunately didn't work; not sure why the devices refuse to connect to it.

To be sure, the picture quality and the angle of view is pretty good - plus the price point is just comparable to replace the many older 930, 932 and 5020s at 640x480. Well, not all because I'd like to get wired connections as many as possible.

It'd be great if I can get it to work. sigh.

btw I've never managed to record audio on all my cameras through D-ViewCam, even when I've set the option to record audio.

I presume maybe that DVC is just not supporting of this model camera.

which would make sense if they want to segment their product lines more clearly.
OTOH, there are competitors out there like FosCam and HikVision that has more discriminating features without crippling essential features.
For example - C1 that still has Ethernet port and C1 Lite that doesn't, and both supports streaming to recorders.

I've been a very loyal Dlink customer stemming from my previous experience. Oh well.

I presume it all depends on how D-Link intended there cameras to work. These are new generation cameras which probably new internal HW and workings and probably didn't afford any compatibility with older generation SW. DVC was mostly a small business class viewing and recording software for here small business and business class cameras. Some home class cameras were included.

Good Luck.
