Hi,
Just got my DIR-868L and tried to set it up.
I absolutely need DHCP reservation for about 20 devices, computers in the house and set them all up, they're all enabled and all have the right Mac addresses.
Problem is that each time any device, computer, laptop connects, it gets the right IP address for about 3 seconds and then switches to non-sense IPs
All of them are in the 192.168.0.50-100 range.
The router DHCP reservation range is set to serve the 50-199.
They broadcast them always or not
The DNS Relay option is on or off, no difference.
I tried with iPhones, iPads, AppleTV, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, Samsung Galaxy, HP Laptop under Windows 7 and Windows 8.
All show the same behavior: 192.168.0.nnn for a few seconds, and then all switch to something like 192.168.192.nnn and all lose any kind of communication.
The router itself uses its default 192.168.0.1 address.
I'm a system engineer and know computing and server setup, IP configuration, etc... so the problem is not on my side. The former LinkSys router had the same IP reservations without problems.
When I renew the lease on each of those devices, they all correctly receive the IP addresses they're supposed to get but 1-2 seconds later, gone.
Sometimes, I'm lucky, I get those for an hour.
Now, when I force an IP on a machine, the one it's supposed to get, I can barely connect to the Internet, but then performances are awful. I mean opening a page takes about 3-4 minutes! Either by Wifi or Ethernet.
And I do have a 250Mbit/s cable internet connection at home that is not at fault.
I reverted back to my LinkSys router and everything is fine and amazingly fast. The problem is the DIR-868L
How can one have the DHCP Reservation work on that router?
Is it worth any effort?
It cur rely stay in my trash bin under my desk, and I'm going to throw it away in a couple of days. But I want to make sure it's worth trashing it.
Thanks for any clarification on someone who succeeded in DHCP Reservation
Steve
