I'll keep you posted.
Now that I have educated myself with what most of the different settings are on the router UI, I think I've got the hang of it. I'm also goin to test it with both the higher and lower end cisco's that I have.

P.s.
Fuzzy, do you know any websites that are good tutorial on how a wireless router UI works? I have learned a lot already, but u can never know too much.

Try Wikipedia or smallnetbuilder for some info...

Well I upgraded my Internet, I now have 105down and 10up.

Now my problem is the bandwidth is always sporadic, and this is for both the dlink and linksys. I have stream boost/media prioritization off on both of them and everything set the way it should. But when I doo a speed test the results are sporadic. I will test it wired to the router and sometimes I will get 111down and 11up and other times I will get 30-70down and 11up. My up always stays the same, wired or wireless. If I test it wireless the most I get is 75down(linksys), 65(down)dlink and 10-11up. And sometimes I may only get 15-40down wireless. The up speed never really gets effected

I seem to get the high readings when I 1st do the test, then if I do the test again a minute later it is always lower.

My modem is the SBG6580, I have in bridge mode because the internal router sucks

Are you testing different site servers on speedtest.net? ST is not the most accurate site for speeds testing and depending on your location, there could be other day time traffic that could be effecting results. Chose other near by server sites.

I recommend that you speed test with your ISP serivce if they offer any features like that. Some do like mine.

Also, I recommend that you have your ISP check the cabling going to the ISP modem, check signal levels going to the ISP modem. For cable Internet, RG-6 coaxial cable is needed, not RG-59. Check for t.v. line splitters and remove them as they can introduce noise on the line and lower the signal going to the ISP modem. Connecting to the ISP modem could result in a false positive as the signal to the modem could be just enough to that point then adding on a router, could see problems. The router operation is dependent upon getting good data flow from the ISP modem and the modem is dependent upon getting good signal from the ISP Service.

I did all this just so I wouldn't lag, and could stream to twitch.

I don't lag anymore, but when I'm streaming the signal drops out, not as often anymore though. Used to get a half hour max before it dropped out, but I streamed for about 3-4 hours before I had issues.

What devices are you using for streaming and on which radio frequency?
How far away is the Device from the router?
What are the current WiFi settings?

I just recently got into streaming. So I'm not sure. I know I use an elgato Capture card, my pc is windows 8 and I use OBS to stream.  I use my computer on the 2.4ghz frequency because the 5ghz doesn't reach my room. Actually I usually just disable the 5ghz because nobody uses it.

My router(s), I've tried the linksys for stream , I haven't tried the dlink yet. I have media prioritizing on ( it seems to run better this way) so that I can dedicate 45mbs download speed to my Xbox and pc, and the rest is for everyone else. UPnP is on, I have all the reservations on the ip addresses in the DHCP setting. Ipv4 and ipv6  are enabled. I have my channel width set to 20mhz only and the channel is set to 9(instead of auto) because the laptops kept dropping connection.

Everything else is pretty much default.

And my router is probably 40-50 feet away

Eh, ya, 2.4Ghz streaming and at that range in distance, probably will fail. Thats up on the outer limits for 2.4Ghz and if there has any building materials in between, could also hamper some connection and signal strength. I personally don't stream on 2.4Ghz. Gaming maybe. 5ghz is best for streaming though. Understand about 5Ghz not getting there.

Can you test streaming at a closer range? Say 15-20 feet?

I did run a 50ft ethernet wire under the house for my 360 because I have a old white brick. I could do the same for my laptop, but I'd prefer not and that's only for one reason. My room is only 17.8ft by 7ft. I practically stay in a large closet. Lol. So me and wires don't like each other in the limited space. But I could run another Ethernet cable if you think it would work.

I stream at my buds house and he has Verizon and he rents their modem/router combo and when I stream there, I have no issues, but then again my laptop is in the same room as the router.

I really do need to get the sporadic bandwidth checked out though, because I think that's a problem as well. I get his and it always shows 50/25 even if its tested again 10 seconds later.

If I test mine one right after another it drops more and more each time.

If you already have one LAN cable under the house to your room, why not add one of these to the end of the cable in your room then connect up all of your devices to it:
http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/switches/dgs-105-5-port-gigabit-ethernet-switch

They come in 8 port too.

I have one in my room and one in the living room, both are connected to my 24pt in the office thats connected to the router.

FYI, I don't recommend speed testing over WiFi, specially that those distances. Ya you get good signal in same room environments however increasing the distances the signal will drop. Also there is too many variables with Wifi to get accurate results. Always speed test over LAN Wire.  ;)

Holy sh......you mean those are compatible with a router, I always thought you could only have one or the other....like the switch/splitter or a router.

Oh no...I don't know exactly how many you could actually daisy chain however 2-3 after the router works well. I have an old NG router in the far end of the living room set up as a wired AP connected to the 2nd switch there, works great.

I recommend switches. Avoid using WiFi for heavy loads if you can run LAN wire. Use WiFi for general internet surfing, phones and such. Especially on 2.4Ghz. Stream or game on 5Ghz if your in closer range, 10-15 feet with out any walls or building materials..one wooden wall is ok.

Do you think that range extenders would help, or don't chance it?
