Major lag spikes in CoD, Killzone, BF4 on ps4
« on: March 20, 2014, 01:25:05 PM »

i just got this router yesterday and it seems that i get alot of lag spikes i wasnt getting on my older buffalo router, is there a way to change my dns i like to use one close to my house that has next to zero lag, also should i leave streamboost on or turn it off.  if i put my ps4 on the DMZ will that negate anything feature wise on this router?  im really just looking for suggestions cause as of now my games are near unplayable.

Link>Welcome!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.
  • For the DGL-5500, review this for Streamboost information and settings: Furry's DGL-5500 Review
  • Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Turn OFF DNS Relay  under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench and input new DNS addresses under Setup/Internet/Manual.
  • Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.

What are your current StreamBoost settings?

ok im using 1.11
im in NA
Wired

my isp is Comcast Cable
modem is Motorola SB6120
as for the ISP modem/service i think its static but not 100% sure
i get abotu 55Mbps down and 11Mbps up
cable is a brand new Cat6 both are from modem to router and router to PS4
MTU is 1500 comcast confirmed

one thing i should say is i only get the lag on the ps4 if i use my chromecast to watch netflix or HBO no lag and great picture quality

my StreamBoost Settings are as follow
i had it set to automatically detect badnwidth but its been "testing" for about 24 hours now
and i disabled the DNS Relay and that improved stuff alot, i still get the hickup time to time which i never saw on the older router.  im about to change my DNS now that i know where to look.

One thing to do, if your going to have SB and ABE enabled, I recommend disconnecting ALL other wired and wireless devices from the router, save one wired LAN PC, during the test time. It shouldn't take 24hours to complete it's speed testing. Other devices could be interfering with the test. So try testing with with out any other devices connected. Once it completes the test, then connect everything back up.

If you use SB and your streaming with CC and gaming with the PS4 at the same time, try lowering the priority for CC and see if this helps. Make sure that that priority for the PS4 is 1.

You have a good ISP modem, I have this one as well. I like the Motorola SB 6 series modems.

D-Link is aware of some issues with Sony products.

Keep us posted...

using 1.11, have not tried beta firmware yet.
sb set to 30/4, as per your suggestion. My eab readings actually are a little bit higher then what I am supposed to be getting.
I get lag spikes when I am the only pc on network.

And nothing else going on PC in the back ground? Torrents, downloads, PC scans, anything? I've been playing Diablo 3 on PC both MAC and Windows and don't see lag issues...only that sometimes I notice some gaming processing going on and my video cards are barely meeting requirements for the game.

Ensure your video card meets game requirements and you have enough memory too.

Gaming directly to ISP modem results in problem going away?
