You could save a configuration to file on the Linksys for later use so you don't loose it's configuration should you choose to try using the Linksys as an AP.

I guess we are at the end of our help here then. It's up to you weather or not to be patient enough to get additional help from D-Link. It's up to you to inform them about the problem. We have done all we can here to help you and make alternative suggestions which you don't seem willing to try. This is now beyond forum help here and it's your responsibility to bring it to the attention of official D-Link support.

Well, if adding the other router as an AP did work ...... what would that tell us?

And I am pretty patient, but I was dead serious when I said I was on hold for 42 minutes last week. That would test anyone's patience.

Yesterday morning I discovered that the connection apparently comes and goes at will. I took screenshots on my phone to document it. Is there any way to post those here?

5:52 A.M. - Was connected to the printer.
5:59 A.M. - Was not connected to the printer.
6:02 A.M. - Was connected to the printer.
6:05 A.M. - Was not connected to the printer.
6:06 A.M. - Was connected to the printer.
6:09 A.M. - Was not connected to the printer.
6:13 A.M. - Was connected to the printer.

What would cause that particular connection to come and go? I never lose connection to the network or the internet on either phone or any of my computers.

Adding an additional AP that is known to work between the iphone and the printer is an alternative work around solution while we wait in hopes that this can be resolved ON the 657 router.

I can understand and empathize with being patient on the phone waiting for them to answer. I have done my share of waiting as well. 


If you can post screen shots, it would be very helpful. Please go to places like photobucket or imageshack on the web and great a free account. Upload your photo files there and then copy and past the Forum [IMG] url link here in to your thread. They should display pictures then for us to review.

One other question. When I tried setting a static IP for the printer, I used the instructions I found here: http://resource.dlink.com/connect/mastering-static-ip-addresses/

Those say " The IP Address you choose will need to fall within your router’s DHCP UP Address Range."

Those instructions say "If you know what the DHCP range is, set an IP address in which the last set of numbers is outside that range, but no higher than 254."

Do you know which one is correct?

Its' recommended to place any static IP assigned devices out side of the DHCP IP address pool. So normally, D-Link routers have a pool of .100 thru .199. I set my devices that need static IPs at .2 thru .99 or .200 thru .254. You normally would not set a static IP address with in the pool range since the router is handling the management of that range and using Reservations is only with this assigned pool range.

I notice one thing about my LaserJet, it always gets the same IP address for some reason weather or not using Reserved or Static. I think it's something on the printer that keeps it going, even though I've changed out different routers.

Give both a try and see what happens with the printer...Keep us posted.

I tried both ways and still can't find the printer with my iPhone. I can print from my PC's with no problems, though.

Well, if you can print from PCs ok, I believe there is a problem between the iOS and the FW on the 657. Something isn't letting the iPhone communicate correctly with the printer.

Well, I have forwarded this to D-Link for review. I don't know when or if this will get fixed depending on there findings. I would highly recommend that you phone contact D-Link support and ask for level 2 or higher support and inquire about this. Once you get thru, hopefully it will be addressed soon for you. This is mostly beyond any forum help here and needs to be addressed by D-Link themselves.

I would also recommend connecting up the other router as an AP in addition to the 657 as an alternate solution while you wait to for resolution from D-Link.

Well, it looks like this will not get fixed. I spent almost 2 hours on the phone yesterday, 47 minutes of that with a "level 2" support agent, and got nowhere. She had me try several things we already tried multiple times and then told me I need to contact HP to find out how to fix this issue with the D-Link router. I even had to tell her which port Bonjour uses. 

I really do appreciate your time and effort, Furry. You have been FAR more helpful and knowledgeable than D-Link's tech support. I don't think they understand how their own products work past the basic setup and operation.

I hate to resurrect an old topic, but this one needs to be addressed. After living with not being able to print from my phone for almost a year, I have proven to myself that is was most definitely the D-Link router that was the problem. I had previously reconnected an old Linksys router and re-setup the network. Using that router, I had no problem finding my wireless printer. Recently I changed my Comcast bundle and they sent me a new HD box and wireless gateway. After installing the wireless gateway, I can locate and print to my HP D110a printer every time. With the D-Link, it was almost always "No AirPrint Printer Found". I tried 4 different firmware versions including a beta version that was brand new and nothing worked.

Many thanks to FurryNutz for all his hard work and effort. He went out of his way to help and even got assistance (although ultimately futile) that D-Link would not provide to me.

Shame on D-Link for their lack of technical knowledge about their own product. They had me trying to change settings that didn't exist for that router plus the utterly ridiculous hold times before I even spoke with anyone. I will be kind and not bad mouth the product to my friends, but I certainly will not recommend D-Link based on my experience with them.

I recommend that you set up that Linksys router as a wired wireless AP in addition to the 657. You can run both at the same time using same SSID and PWs. Channels need to be different. Or shut off the radio on the 657 and use the Linksys as your main AP. I presume the issue is with the the 657 or may be that it's not supported at all or in compatible. If this suggestion doesn't work out then I recommend that you find an alternative solution as the 657 isn't getting much development at this time and I presume it maybe headed to phased out status with in this year.

Sorry buddy, but I am done with D-Link. If anyone wants a working DIR-657 for $20 US plus shipping, I would be happy to sell it. Just PM me. It works very well and my internet speeds were excellent. Poor product support, phone support and a general lack of product knowledge by D-Link themselves are my reasons for never using one of their products again.

Sorry it's not working for you. My iphones works with this router just fine save we don't do any printing with them. This may just a compatibility issue between the iphones and this model router.
