Xtreme N 2.4GHz Antenna ANT24-0230
« on: January 04, 2013, 03:10:26 PM »

Can anyone tell me if the D-Link Xtreme N 2.4GHz Antenna ANT24-0230 antenna will work with the DGL-4500 if I leave it in the 2.4GHz mode?

If not, can you recommended some replacement antenna's that will give the DGL-4500 increased range ?

The link below will show the specs for the antenna.

Thank You.

Yes it works on either Frequency.

Someone a few years back reported that they bought 3 of these and worked even better:

Thank You for the quick reply FN!

For $16.99 plus free shipping for a refurbished unit on eBay I am going to purchase one of the D-Link antenna's and try it out.

I will let the forum know how it works after I receive it and get it installed.

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

802.11 Mode : Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g and 802.11b

Channel Width :20MHz

Channel :1

WISH : Inactive

Wi-Fi Protected Setup :Enabled/Configured -WPA/WPA2 - Personal

Wireless devises: 3 Laptops, 3 Android mobiles, 1 Xbox 360

No cordless house phones

4 other WiFi routers in range but none using the same channel

Wish off and WPS now off

WLAN Partition was off and Short GI is now off. No extra wireless protection option

WMM was enabled.

Installed the refurbished D-Link antenna setup and it does supply better signal strength throughout our 1900 sq ft single story home, especially noticeable on the Xbox and the Android mobiles as they are used the furthest away from the router. Not a huge increase in signal strength but well worth the money spent. The router was in an area that was blocking wireless signal and could not be moved, so being able to raise the antennas to a higher position was a plus in our situation.

Sounds good.

You might try switching to Mixed G and N mode only and test signal and operation.

Sounds like a good investment. Maybe at some point you might consider getting a repeater in the far end from the router to help single.

Enjoy.
