map Hard Disk on DIR-645 as network drive
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:55:28 AM »

Hello Folks,

entering \\192.168.0.1\drive_a1 in the windows explorer returns error code 0x80004005.
When trying to map \\192.168.0.1\drive_a1 as network drive, 0x800704b3 is returned.
ShareportPlus displays the connected USB drive, but the network drive cannot be mapped.
When DLNA on the router is activated, the library can be seen in WMP.
My PC is on Windows 7 (32)in a homegroup
DLINK Router DIR-645
Firmware-Version:1.02, Tue 17 Jan 2012
Even if the Windows Firewall is turned off, I recieve the errors
It occurs with different users, even Admin

I have no idea what to do, any help is appreciated,

Claus

What version of SP are you using?
Could try v4 however not sure if this will fix it?
How big is the USB drive?

Try this:

How is the drive formatted? OEM format? Or standard NTFS or FAT32?

Can you format the drive with FAT32 and see if it does the same thing?

Did you review the link?

I read the link and exactly whan trying this, I am getting the error.
Reformatting the drive to FAT32 is quite different, since there is a lot of data on it ;-)

I am not sure wether it is router related or its windows related.
But even with a disabled windows firewall it does not work.
I am also sure if AVIRA may be guity...

Cheers,

The clueless Claus

... in my SP, it does not connect.
What I figured out yesterday was, that it mus be related to some PC settings.
Using a SMB CLient on a smarphone, the drive could be connected.

It was too easy:
The workstation service wasn't running on the PC.
It was set to "autostart" but the startup failed, since something corrupted a key in the registry.
I corrected the Key, the service started and the drive was connected...

...
1. IMPORTANT - Back up your system before making these changes. It is also important to create a new Emergency Repair Disk.

2. Verify that ServiceDll is stored in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services lanmanworkstation Parameters

3. You should see an entry with the Name of ServiceDll, Type REG_EXPAND_SZ and Data value of %systemroot%\system32\wkssvc.dll.

4. If this entry does not exist, you can add it with the following steps: a. Choose Edit-New-Expandable String Value. b. Name the new value ServiceDll (it is case sensitive). c. Double-click on this new value and specify Value data: %systemroot%\system32\wkssvc.dll. You could also copy the reg key from a working workstation.

5. After the entry is added to the registry you should be able to start the Workstation Service. NOTE - The uninstall/install of Great Plains does not remove this registry entry....
