Network Cameras - Firmware Do's and Don'ts
« on: April 19, 2012, 01:19:54 PM »

Below are some simple rules to follow prior to downloading and installing firmware or apps on your D-Link product and discussing firmware in this forum.

Downloading and Installing Firmware for a D-Link Product

  • Only install firmware downloaded directly from an official D-Link website or FTP site
  • Only install firmware clearly labeled for the specific country/region where you purchased the D-Link product
  • Firmware labeled as worldwide or ww will work for any country/region
  • Firmware downloaded from an official D-Link site that is different from the country/region where the D-Link product was purchased may render the D-Link product as inoperable and void the warranty
  • Firmware labeled as beta may not be as stable as the prior official release version

Uploading Firmware

  • If the firmware file is compressed (e.g. zip extension), un-compress the firmware file prior to upgrading
  • Do not upgrade firmware via a wireless connection as a network disruption can render the DCS-XXX camera unusable
PLEASE NOTE: Some D-Link camera models e.g., DCS-935L, DCS-2630L and DCS-960L have a wireless connection option only, this suggestion does NOT apply to these models.

Discussing Firmware on the D-Link Forum

  • Posting or discussing the location of beta firmware on official International D-Link sites (i.e. non-U.S.) is strictly prohibited in this forum unless said firmware is labeled as worldwide or ww
  • Posting or discussing the location of firmware on third party sites (i.e. non D-Link) is strictly prohibited in this forum

Why Are there Country-Specific Firmware Versions for the Same D-Link Product?

  • Country-specific dependencies, such as language and other variables sometimes results in country-specific firmware
  • Subtle variations in the manufacturing process from country to country may result in different hardware specifications and different firmware requirements. As such, using firmware not specifically designated for your D-Link product may render the D-Link product inoperable and void the warranty
  • Although D-Link sometimes uses one firmware version for the same D-Link product/model released worldwide, until D-Link U.S. openly posts compatibility information (or labels the firmware as worldwide or ww), please refrain from posting or discussing links to non-US supported firmware in this forum
  • Infringing posts will be removed from this forum
