DIR-601 with a Westall Router (AT&T) help request
« on: November 21, 2011, 07:19:21 PM »

Hello and thank you for your time.

I purchased a Dir-601 to use at my mother-in-law's in conjunction with an AT&T Westall DSL modem.  The router puts out a wireless signal as it should - no wired internet connection though ...
I have the modem set in bridge mode - what corresponding adjustments must I make in the router?

Thanks.

What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Probably need to bridge the DSL modem to the router and have the router set up for PPPoE and the DSL account information correctly. Select Always On as well. This is under Setup/Internet/Manual.

Some things to try:
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? You can find these under Status/Device Info/Wan section.
Turn off ALL QoS (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Setup/Networking
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. WPA2/Auto TPIK and AES.

What ISP Modem do you have? ***Westall for At&T -

Stand Alone or built in router? ***Stand Alone.

What ISP Modem make and model do you have? ***Westall - did not right down - will check model # tonight.

If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems. *** Only 1 router (DIR601) and 1 DSL modem)***

Probably need to bridge the DSL modem to the router and have the router set up for PPPoE and the DSL account information correctly. Select Always On as well. This is under Setup/Internet/Manual. *** AT&T tech help suggested I set the Westall modem to bridge mode, and so I did. Router is set for PPPoE and login credentials are correct.  I will also check the 'Always On' setting.***

Thanks.

OK - its a Westell Modem manufactured in 2006.  Model # C90-610030-06 REV G.   I am using WEP.  Wireless mode is mixed G and N.

I probably will not make it back to her house until Friday.  I'll try some of your other suggestions and let you know what happened.

Thanks again.
