2 Issues: 1.) Microwaves 2.)NetFlix
« on: February 13, 2011, 10:50:47 PM »

Router:DGL-4500
Firmware: 1.21NA
Gamefuel Enabled on PS3

Two Problems
1.) Microwaves
I have my laptop about 2 bedrooms away from the router which sits near the kitchen.  Everytime the microwave is used I lose wireless access!  Is there any way to fix this?

2.) Netflix via PS3
I also notice that when ever we watch movies on Netflix and then go about using the wireless afterwards that the Internet is pretty slow.  I usually have to pull the plug and reset to fix this issue.  Any known fixes?

I have had the microwave problem, I would start to lag out and my turtle beach headphones would start making a popping noise.  I switched the channel to 1 and was able to move the xbox so it no longer crossed paths with the microwave. For some reason channel 11 would get interfered with it. The problem went away.

As for the PS3, did you review the sticky on the home page on how to set it up?

I've tried channel 1 and no luck.  I'll give channel 11 a shot and update my router firmware and report back. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Also, when you change the channel do you have to reset the router???

Shouldn't have to reboot the router if it' doesn't ask you. I think when working in Wifi, most of the settings can be done with out a reboot. Might do it for the sake of it if you can.

EDIT: Just had to double check, and yes 1.22 corrects a DNS Relay issue that causes WAN slowdown. Absolutely upgrade your firmware. I had some nasty issues with 1.21 as well anytime I used a good bit of bandwidth (which Netflix certainly does).

Yea, I worked on tracking that issue. It also effected performing traceroute. If I did a standard tracert the hostname discovery at the end of each hop would take 5-6 seconds. If I added the value to strip the away, no delay. If I removed DNS relay, didn't matter.

While were on the subject, what do you suggest for DNS? ISP? OpenDNS? GoogleDNS? Or you hardcore to run your own? ::grin::
