access control and dns relay
« on: September 27, 2008, 08:21:32 AM »

Hi, I use website filter + access control on one computer.
When DNS relay enabled the policy is working fine; however if I disable DNS relay the policy is somehow bypassed.  I can access filtered website without any blocking  :o

Currently I pointed DNS to opendns.com; this issue is same if i use ISP's DNS

With 1.11 version I can disable DNS relay and still have web filter working.

Firmware: 1.21B04 non-secure, hardware: A3

Regards,

Steve

Only when the 655 handles the DNS relay it can execute the rules... Seems logical. You can configure OpenDns on url's etc so you should not have to worry.

I think it will be hard to have D-Link implement a completely new rules and access module that works outside the DNS...

Eddie:

Yes, it seems logical. However in 1.11 I can disable DNS relay and still use access control ???
Maybe in 1.11 access control will override DNS realy.....

Hopefully Dlink can confirm this is normal behavior, thanks.

Very odd...
This would be a great question for Lycan to relay to PM/programmers...
