Increasing Hard Drive Size RAID Configured
« on: February 17, 2010, 07:48:02 PM »

I currently have a 321 with two 500G drives RAID configured. I am nearing full capacity on the drives and would like to replace with a pair of 2TB drives. I would like to know if I replace a 500G drive with a 2TB drive will I be able to rebuild the RAID and then replace the remaining 500G drive with a 2TB rebuild again without losing any data.

Has anyone done this before?

If you don't have a backup of your data, I suggest you first have a complete backup!  Note that RAID of any level is not backup, if that data is important to you, you should have a backup anyway.

When I did this, I copied all of the data off the unit and put both drives back in and copied all the data back.  IMO, this is the way to approach this issue.

PS: RAID of any level is NOT a second copy.
