DWA-130 constant "Wireless" reconnect
« on: June 04, 2008, 10:07:48 AM »

Is there a setting I need to check / change?  My DWA-130 constantly "notifies" that my wireless network is connected (from a DIR-615 router.)

Either they are wireless interferences in your environment that causes the router to reboot (reason why you are getting the message). Codeless phones operating at 2.4GHz, bluetooth devices, and other WI-FI electronics can cause wireless interference and hence cause the router to reboot. I will also suggest that change the wireless channel on the router from, either Auto scan to channel 11 or 1 (less overlapping channels).

I doubt the router is rebooting since my other PC is directly wired to it and has no problems.  It seems the my DWA-130 somehow is resetting the connection.  What should I check?

Anything else can I check to get this adapter to work well?

What driver version are you running on the DWA-130? The most current driver version out is 1.30

Driver Pack is 1.30 but the true driver version is:  1.0.7.2

To further this issue, the adapter gets an IP address from my router but then all networking access is lost including Internet.

Addendum:  The problem is not with my DIR-615 router.  Every "wired" connection works correctly.  It is just the "wireless" signals cut out or blocks network access.

I finally narrowed down my problem!  I updated my Internet security software to Norton 360 and its embedded firewall is more "complex" than the ones I used before.  It was forcing my Dlink DIR-615's SSId to a limited connection.  This cause the DWA-130 to drop the network access while still haveing good signals.

Did that correct the issue?

I was only able to do a few hours of testing last night.  I should be able to check this more this evening and over the week-end.

I never considered a firewall software would block a SSID, eventhough the router's LAN IP is within the current permitted LAN IP range.

I'm back, after a complete crash of my PC.  Replaced it completely and I can confirm that the embedded firewall module in Norton 360 is the problem.  It must be told which SSID to trust.  If not, the firewall will disconnect the wireless network.

Good find. Thats acutally more common then you think, Also it would be nice if the Norton software, I dunno, maybe reported whats it's doing on the PC to the end user in like a pop-up or something.

Yeah!  It seems that software based firewalls are now becoming "bloated" with features that most would not consider checking or configuring.
