Ok, if you assume your local router being the problem, then not because it doesn't handle WOL correctly (as I said: it can't see them inside the VPN), but probably because VPN pass thru won't work (that's the only part of the game your router is responsible for). Are you sure, that a VPN connection is established at all?

Of course I have a connection, I can access my machine fine when it's not sleeping or other work servers.
