Router needs two computers on to work
« on: April 18, 2009, 09:57:49 AM »

I've had the DIR-655 Rev 1 FW 1.11 up and semi running for a few months now. I needed to go back to 1.11 in order for COD 4 to work. BUt what I have found is besides the random reboots which I can deal with is that I need both computers that are connected to it via wire to be on in order for the internet to work. I set up and configured the router on one computer only. But if either of the computers is off, then the other will not connect to the internet. I have wireless diasabled, and AVG firewall.

Any ideas ?

Tried disabling your firewall/AV?

This is due to a Windows configuration. "Somewhere" there is a seeting, but unfortunately I do not know exactly what the solution is. Just  for the record, does your router contain any notations to that specific other PC that needs to be on (DNS or gateway perhaps?)

Do you have anything in the routers "Routing" section?
Are your computers using DHCP?

Sounds like internet sharing is enabled on one of the computers making it a gateway. Go into the connection properties of both pc's then to advanced tab and make sure internet sharing is disabled. I think its called "share this connection" or "allow computers to connect to the internet using this connection" if all else fails just go into device manager on both computers, remove and reinstall the lan drivers
