Upgrading Firmware from 1.22NA to 1.25NA
« on: June 21, 2011, 11:51:33 AM »

I'm experiencing what appears to be the systemic problem of losing communication between my DIR-628 and my USB printer. When it works, it works great, but usually at least once in 24 hr period, I have to reboot my router to keep the USB function working.

D-Link customer support say's that if I flash my firmware to 1.25NA, all of my problems will be solved. I'm   apprehensive about any upgrades to firmware from D-Link.

Has anyone had any problems with upgrading to 1.25NA on the 628????

Are you using shareport SW?
I think you can go back to v1.22 if 1.25 doesn't work.
I would recommend saving your current configuration to file for the router before doing FW updates.

If you choose to update, do the following:
Save Configuration to file first.
Factory reset the router.
Update using the web link for your product on Dlinks web page. U'll download a zip file and it needs to be unpack to reveal a .bin file.
Upload the .bin file on the routers web page for FW updates.
Factory reset once more.
I would manually connect and reset up the router and usb printer cleanly. If your not comfortable with that then you can reload the saved configuration file and see how it goes. That should should. I just prefer to set things up cleanly if on a new version of FW>

Let us know how it goes.

Yes, thanks for the feedback.

I am using Shareport 3.0. I have two computers networked and both work great with the USB print/drive feature....when it works. The problem is....every so often the router stops communicating with the USB devices. Shareport thinks the printer is out there...goes through it's thing just as always, but no communication link exists. The router has glitch! If I toggle the power on the router, it works just great until the next breakdown. (generally within a 24 hr period....doesn't matter which computer)

I talked to D-Link support.....you cannot go back to 1.22 once 1.25 is flashed.

I am really interested in responses as to whether anyone has done this update and had problems after installing 1.25NA in a DIR-628. I quite frankly do not trust D-Link support.

My 628 overall has good speed and coverage, and is solid.....no crashes, etc., so if the 1.25 flash is going to cause me other problems, I'll just live with the USB glitch instead.

Thanks

Ok, I would recommend checking with the Shareport forums as well and see what others recommend. Keep us posted.
