Please help, 20% signal with 1Mb at 30'
« on: August 22, 2008, 06:08:34 AM »

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem here, I have a DIR-655 and a DWA-552 and have followed the instructions in the sticky.  But I am getting only a 20% signal and 1Mb speed as reported from the router.  I can't get over 1MB/s transferring from my server to my HTPC (server is connected via 1Gb card and CAT6 cable), which is really weird since the router is only about 30 feet away.  Do you think it could be a defective router?  or maybe the DWA-552?  I appreciate all your help :)

Tarz,

Which utility are you using.. The D-Link utility or WZC?

I'm the same issue hitting a gamerlounge.   I've been using WZC because the d-link utility won't respond after opening.

I have the same configuration: dwa-552 and a dir655.
I have found no difference between the wzc and the dlink supplied.
A critical difference is "where the antennas are pointing". Even re-orienting them slightly makes a big difference. A movement of the router by a few feet also makes a difference.
Also check:
1. auto 20/40
2. wpa2 only (aes)
3. move all cordless phones far away (especially the base).

JackTheMan18,

Try completely turning off your phones.. Do you notice a difference? Also what drivers are you running on the adapter?
