Wireless Internet Download Speeds Slow
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:06:31 PM »

Hello :)

This is my second post here, and I'm posting also on DSLReports to find out what may be causing this issue.

I'm currently subscribed to Comcast's 22/5 Internet service. Internet upload speeds on both wired and wireless are about the same at ~ 5 Mbps. Wireless download speeds range from .5-3 Mbps. Wired or Wireless, I receive LAN speeds of ~32 Mbps or 3-4 MB/s. The noticeable issue is wireless internet download speed. I have tried every configuration possible with my router, updated drivers on devices, firmware and tested everything I could on all PCs, and even used the XBOX 360's media extender network tuning feature as a tool in my investigation to find this bottleneck. All reports point to internet download speed. Again, general LAN and internet upload speeds relatively meet expectations. The wired download speeds are slow at times, but consistently meet expectations.

Hi,

What are your download speeds cabled directly from PC to your modem ??  That will tell you immediately if the issue is with your ISP or the router....  Since your wired and wireless speeds are the same, I would suspect a problem with your modem or your ISP service in general...

My download speeds connected directly to the modem are the same as when wired directly to one of the four gigabit ports on the router. My wired and wireless speeds are not the same as the screenshots attached to my post indicate. I've had the signals on the modem checked and they are good according to the ISP. Wireless download speeds and wireless ping are my primary issues. I'd sincerely like to have an answer on this here, but I'm afraid I may have to contact DLINK's technical support. I typically do not like ever calling any major company's technical support team.

I have 100/10 mbit/s from my supplier. but i get 95/18,5 mbit/s which is very normal.
and with my laptop(1m) from the router i get 70/25 mbit/s. why do i get faster upload with wireless than with wire?
you said that you had problem with your wireless, too many packages dropped i think.
i wonder why?

Interesting. I have something similar. I have a DIR655 and DAP-1360. When my wife's MacBook is connected to the 655 she gets about the same speed as my PC's (20M-down/3M-up). When I turn on the 1360, the PC's are OK, but the MacBook slows to <1M up or down. THis was with 2009 firmware on the 655. I just upgraded and we'll see what happens.

Hi Jake11,

Remove the checkmark from Enable Auto Channel Scan and change the channel to Channel 11.

The higher the Channel Number the greater Wireless Speed.

The lower the Channel Nmber the slower Wireless Speed.
