Losing Wi-fi signal after the camera was installed.

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to solve this problem but haven't found a solution. Since the camera was installed I noticed that I loose connection with my router from time to time (approximately each 20 min.). The Wi-fi signal disappears from all devices and it's impossible to access the router on the 192.168.0.1 (even from my Mac that is connected directly through cable). Everything goes back to normal after 20, 30 seconds.

Initially I thought it was due to ip conflict. I set up static ip for all devices (except the camera) and the ip conflict message disappeared, but not the other problem. I have no idea why this is happening. If I turn off the camera the problem disappears.

Any ideas how to solve this issue?

First, try disabling ALL wireless devices except for the DCS-942L. Set the DCS-942L to DHCP and reserve an IP address for the DCS-942L through your router.

As a side note, you should let the router manage all IP addresses through reservation rather than using static IP addresses managed by individual wireless devices. Routers are designed for this task and this approach will avoid potential conflicts.

Hi JavaLawyer,

I tried to find this "reservation ip address" feature, but didn't find anything. My router is a DI-624. I think that tihs router doesn't have this feature.

    • What wireless modes are you using?
    • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11.
    • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
    • Any cordless house phones?
    • Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?


    What exact model router do you have? I see there is a 624S or 624M model.

    What is the distances between the cameras and the router?

    Well, these are the attempts I've made

    The problem persists.

    Security is WPA (options are: WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA-Auto).
    Below security menu there is PSK / EAP options: PSK is selected

    My router is DI-624 (yes, it's an old model). The cam and router are in the same room (max. distance 5 feet).
    There's a cordless phone 3 feet from the router.
    Since I live in an apartment, there's a lot of other wi-fi routers in the area, but I've never had any problem before I bought the camera.

    PS: I've tried to edit the post title because the problem it's not only the wi-fi signal. I can't connect to the router (even through cable) when the problem occurs.

    Despite being an old router, I've never had any problem with it. I have iphones (3gs, 4s), ipad, xbox360, all connected through this router and never had any incompatiblity problems.

    I think I'm gonna try to install this camera on another router and check if the same problem occurs.

    That's good, although you would still be better off with a more modern router.  Not having uPnp limits the camera's capabilities somewhat. For example you may have a live video viewing time limit if your router doesn't support this.  A decent wireless-N router doesn't really cost a whole lot these days, and may also give you a more secure connection and easier setup.

    i have a modern router (bought 2012). the uPnp of 942L will crash it or the 942L will not be unavailable.
    i think the new firmware 1.22 has a newer uPnp module
