Title: DIR-895L - 2.5 Ghz band not working
Post by: RoadHogg on February 01, 2017, 12:41:04 PM
Bought this router in October 2016.  Within a week, the 2.5 Ghz band stopped working.  D-Link replaced the unit since it was less than a month old, cost me shipping fees.  Recently the 2.5 Ghz stopped working again.  Is this just the worst router ever built or is there some secret I'm missing with this thing?  These things are so horribly expensive, I thought it would be a good router for a long time.  That is not proving to be the case.  Can anyone help?  (yes, rebooted and latest firmware installed)

Thanks for your reply.  I did not see a notification of your first message.

DIR-895L HW:A1 FW:1.12

Canada

All SSIDs are unique

Wireless Mode: 802.11 b/g/n AND 802.11 a/n/ac

No other wireless devices present

Tried your suggestion on the "Smart Connect".  I remember your people asking me to try that in the past and I was hesitant to try it again and now I know why.  Once activated, the router is completely inaccessible due to the fact that the 2.4 Ghz network is unreachable and the 5 Ghz networks disappearing once it's on.  I now have to factory reset the router to get it set up again from the start.

SMART CONNECT IS NOT THE PROBLEM.  This router worked out of the box for a week or two (I believe I detailed this in the first message).  After spending hours on the phone with D-Link, they determined that they would replace it.  I shipped it away at my expense and in a couple weeks a replacement (not new) unit was returned to me.  The unit then worked for a couple months then gave up again, same symptom.

This router obviously has a defect and that defect needs to be resolved.  There are no other wireless devices or networks for miles around.  There is no reason this router should not work just fine here.  Please help to resolve this issue, otherwise D-Link will need to issue to me a refund for this router, regardless of any "policy" they may cite, this is a defective product from a design standpoint and it should never have been on the market.

You'll need to contact D-Link Canada again and talk to them about this issue. This issue seems to be your unit being defective and the replacement as well possibly. The only other thing I would try is to take the unit to a different location, say friend, neighbor or families place and see if the problem follows. This would test to make sure nothing in your configuration or environment is causing additional problems.

I understand your frustrations and I do hope D-Link will figure this out. However this is a localized issue for now and other units here in the USA are working and working well. Your experiences doesn't mean the tired model line is bad. If it were so, there would be more posts about it...way more posts.

I recommend that you phone in again and talk to escalated support. Reference this forum thread if needed.

Thanks.  I don't have time to waste on crappy equipment, that's why I bought the best router D-Link had.  They replaced it once and it failed again, faulty router is the only logical conclusion.  I have no choice but to cut my losses and just buy a different brand now.  I don't have time to mess with junk, that's why I was doing what I thought was buying a router I wouldn't have to babysit.

I would suggest that you phone contact D-Link support in Canada and ask for escalated support while your unit is still under warranty. If your not happy with this unit, ask them whats maybe going on with it and if they don't satisfy your concerns, ask about a possible exchange for a DIR-890L model. I can't said if they will approve or not however worth asking. I recommend using the warranty period while it last.

I've already forwarded this on to D-Link USA for additional information for this region. Sorry but USA and Canada regions can't cross regions for help.  ::)

I wish I could do more. If I was in your region I'd consider take it off your hands.
