Title: Have to recycle DIR868L every 24 hours
Post by: stclarke on August 15, 2016, 07:32:58 AM
I have recently had my ISP replace their modem (to a sagecom FAST4350), and since then, everyday I need to recyle my 868L to get internet access.  All other functions of the 868L work (wireless, DHCP etc), its just that @ 10:00 am EST everyday, I lose Internet Access.   To resolve, I do not need to reboot the modem, just receyle the 868L and I'm connected to Internet again.

I am using PPOE, I DO NOT have  a static IP, my ISP supplies the IP but claims they don't recyle the IP daily, my 868L is at firmware v1.10

This has been going on daily for 2 weeks now.   Does anyone have any thoughts on how to resolve ?  Is it a rounter setting I have never used before ?

Thanks in advance for the support

Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

What happened with this? http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=56129.msg217728#msg217728 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=56129.msg217728#msg217728)

Thanks

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case. -> Hardware A1, Firmware 1.10
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.-> Hardware A1, Firmware 1.10
What region are you located? Ontario Canada
Are you wired or wireless connected to the router? Wireless

ALSO Modem is in BRIDGE MODE

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have? Link> Speed Testing Sites ->Down 6.01Mbps  Up .64 Mbps
By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds. -> Same results
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. -> replaced with a new one
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed

"  By-pass the main host router and check internet connection by connecting a wired LAN PC directly to the ISP modem to verify connection access and ISP speeds. -> Same results" So your seeing the same problem when directly connected to the ISP modem?

Check the WAN port speed on the 868L, set to 100Mb and test, then try 10Mb. Your ISP speeds are not over 10Mb so you could use this setting.

Thanks,

By saying I get the same results hardwired into the ISP Modem, vs 868L, I'm saying I get the same speeds etc..not the same problem.   The problem seems to occur @ 10am est everyday wherby the 868L loses Internet (and the ISP modem Internet light is ON)

I have noticed that in the WAN status screen when this occurs it shows cable as connected, and Network as busy (ie not connected).  Sadly, the logs on the 868L don't go back to 10am today.  I'll have to be quicker looking at the logs when this happens.

Ok, just clairifying.

Ya, if this happens everyday at the same time, just seems something on the ISP side of the router.

What all is connected at this time frame? I would disconnect and turn OFF every device accept for 1 wired PC so you can check the status and logs when this happens.

Also try the WAN port speed adjustment as well.

Thanks again !
I changed the WAN Port Speed, and will try your suggestion tomorrow morning, as well as getting the logs ASAP when this happens.  I agree it's something on the ISP modem, but they refute that :-)    Even when I tell them it only started happening with this new modem I got last week and not with the previous one.

But hey, with changing technology, I thought I would see if something needed to be changed on the 868L also

Thans so much for your promp support

Ya if the router was working before the modem change out and now this is happening after the new modem, something with the ISP service or this mew modem. Is this on the only Mfr and model modem they support with there service?

OK - ISP was here yesterday and now I have a dedicated loop to the modem.  All was good until approx 8pm, then speed slowed down below 1Mbps !  Continued slow until @ 8am today.  Called ISP back, now have disconnected 868L, put ISP on separate electrical circuit, and using ISP modem directly to watch for issues.

In the mean time, is there a  diagnostic utility/tool I can use on the 868L ?

Ok, keep us posted on how that goes. I'm hoping that the issue is with the ISP. Time will tell.

As for the 868L, I don't know of anything you can do to test it out aside from doing some jPerf WAN and LAN performance tests to see how it does. Can do a search on it. I have some info on jPerf however haven't had any time to sit down and work with it or configure it. Supposedly you can test with a PC connected to the ports of the router, WAN and LAN. A network switch maybe needed as well. I haven't the knowledge yet on how to configure all of that.

Do you have a old router or spare router to use or test with?
